Apple today activated its in-store reserve and pickup system for the new 10.2-inch iPad in the United States and Canada.

This system enables customers to purchase the 10.2-inch iPad on Apple.com in advance and select a 30-minute window to pick it up at an Apple Store. The tool can also be used to monitor inventory of the 10.2-inch iPad at Apple Stores based on ZIP or postal code, with stock available at many locations today.

To check if Apple Stores in your area have stock, head to the 10.2-inch iPad purchase page on Apple's website, configure your desired model, select "check another store" under "pickup," and enter your ZIP or postal code.

When you get to the Apple Store, let an employee know you have an order to pick up. Make sure to bring a valid government-issued photo ID with you. Apple also sometimes provides a QR code that can be added to the Wallet app for convenience and quicker check-in, but this is optional.

Alongside in-store pickups, the 10.2-inch iPad is now available for walk-in purchase in many countries. Availability will vary by store, so we recommend calling ahead to confirm your desired model is in stock.

Apple unveiled the 10.2-inch iPad at its September event earlier this month. The 10.2-inch iPad is similar to the 9.7-inch iPad it replaces, with the same A10 Fusion chip and Apple Pencil support, but it has a larger display and a Smart Connector that enables support for Apple's full-sized Smart Keyboard.

10.2-inch iPad pricing starts at $329 in the United States, in line with the 9.7-inch iPad.

FYI: a lot of people think Apple does not offer discounts. They do. If you want the Apple experience at lower prices, ask for a price match. They will match lower prices from Target, Walmart or Best Buy (not Amazon or Costco) - up to 10% off!
I got a 10% match against Costco’s prices before. I just had to login on the Costco site to show them I could get that price. It was on AirPods 2nd gen. Cost me about $10 more than Costco after my 2% Executive member rebate, but I was getting $150 trade in for an iPhone 6 I bought for 49 from simple mobile. Came out way ahead in the end.

Just got a new iPad Air 3... Verizon is doing $150 off right now. It was either that or this 10.2". Not much of a difference, but the Air has the A12 bionic, and for whatever reason this brand new iPad has the A10 processor. You're basically buying a three year old iPad in a new box.

yea not upgrading the CPU on this unit was stupid, its what I like to call a Samsung move . Since samsung is notorious for using an older CPU on tablet devices (except this years Tab S6 which has the same as the current gen phones)

I'm surprised it can run iOS 13. At least with 32GB you can use external storage now.

This is still using an A10 chip and isn't much faster than the 9.7 iPad Pro with the A9X. The Air is definitely the better value. Also, Apple has a history of dropping hardware support around 5 years of a products life and the internals of this iPad are going on year 3.

It should be at least A11 but this model will be supported for 5-8 more years - my kids school still using the previous gen (A9) and they get full support from Apple - also the A10 is faster than 95% of tablets out - there is nothing on the app store that won't run on it.

Sure, it may cost less, but with an A10 it will only have a limited number of years of support until Apple drops it.

Obviously not an issue for everyone, but for an iPad I would definitely try to maximize the amount of time it’s useable.

The 10.5” iPad Pro I bought over two years ago has the even better A10X.

It looks like the A9s might be on the chopping block next year...

A10 is a great chip and I have no complaints with the performance of my 6th gen iPad (which has the A10) running iOS 13. That said, I still don't see A10 devices getting updated past iOS 15, as that would be a full 6 years of software updates for the A10, which is currently Apple's record.

The biggest (only?) change under the hood is 3GB vs. 2GB of RAM. This is significant, and coupled with the screen bump and smart connector make this a much more capable "computer" than the previous generation. For people who only do basic tasks (i.e. don't need much processing power) but switch between multiple apps in their workflow, this is a much bigger upgrade than it seems.

Although I fully "respect" A10, come on, it's 2019!

Agreed, I was stunned they chose this from the A9 of the prior model, simply because it (used in iPhone 7) should loose security updates starting with iOS 15 (2 years from now). At least go for A11 (which is 2 gens old already).

Now they could support it longer but that is not what history has shown they'll do.

Unfortunately, moving forward I suspect Apple will start dropping support for more and more devices solely based on their age, regardless of performance...
