so,call it apple move, from now on?! Or need the samsung hate?

all though off topic, no samsung hate I actually own the Galaxy Tab S6... as well as the IPP 11. its as I said though that samsung has done it in the past a few times in relation to tablets (tab S4 for example). hence why I mentioned it

regardless of what coined phrase you want to call it... coming out with a tablet with an older SOC is just wrong.

A10 near the end of 2019 in a new device? Yuck.

I know, right? I mean, I can’t believe Apple’s using the A10 fusion processor, it’s faster than almost all the tablets on the market, will easily be supported likely up to iOS 15 (Which puts it at/near six years of iOS support), not to mention, there is _zero_ limitations currently on the App-store for the A10.

But hey, we could just side with your logic being the ‘A10 fusion is being used near the end of 2019.’ 😁

PC OEMs do this all the time to hit a price point and I am not sure why Apple is being judged differently. You can currently purchase a Dell Inspiron 3477 All-In-One with a Pentium 4415U for $449.00 (https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/del...desktop/spd/inspiron-24-3477-aio/napun4kb515s) and that CPU was released in Q1 of 2017 (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...m-gold-processor-4415u-2m-cache-2-30-ghz.html) and I see that they are using 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Generation CPUs. I am sure that if I look around I can see other PC OEMs still using 7th Gen CPUs. Should they only be using 9th or 10th Generation CPUs? Why are OEMs still making heavy use of 8th Generation CPUs? Coming out with a PC with an older CPU is just wrong, right?

The A10 Fusion is a very capable SOC and I have absolutely no qualms about purchasing one of these iPads. Apple did the math and checked the marketing and that's what they decide should go in the chassis.

Mentioned in a prior thread, people are motoring around on their iPad Air 2's with iOS 13 pretty well and I see the same sort of longevity for the 6th and 7th Generation iPads. What SoC should Apple be using in it's entry level iPad?

I got a 10% match against Costco’s prices before. I just had to login on the Costco site to show them I could get that price. It was on AirPods 2nd gen. Cost me about $10 more than Costco after my 2% Executive member rebate, but I was getting $150 trade in for an iPhone 6 I bought for 49 from simple mobile. Came out way ahead in the end.
Apple does not match Costco prices since they’re a membership Store. Maybe the specialist at the store did bit know better and he didn’t ask his manager or the manager was clueless too.
If you want a discount on the new iPad, just head to the Education store and order there for pickup.

iPad Air 3 is the best value by far, this one has an ancient CPU and the Pro is way overpriced.

Last year's Gen 6 model is on closeout/sale at some stores. Got mine at Target $249.

Yes, same CPU, not really worth the full upgrade plus don't need the larger screen...

I got mine last holiday season for $220 :)

Yes the A10X is a beast. Still the third highest metal score out of all the iOS devices.

The 2017 iPad Pro’s Metal score was the deciding factor in my decision to get one instead of a 2018 iPad Pro. I ended up with the 512GB 12.9” Wi-Fi from B&H for $799, back in January of 2018. Actually just took it out of the box two weeks ago and started setting it up. It’s is truly a beast and 8x more storage than the equivalent priced 2018 iPad Pro. I love me a deal!

For the price point, I think this thing is pretty great, I only wish they had upped the processor to an A11 or 12. We got my wife's mother the 2018 version (she had been on an iPad 2) and she loves it. I think it's nice for basic computing for a lot of people, but as I said, a slightly newer chipset would have been a good idea. Maybe next year.

In your world processing power is the only thing in chip design . Time for you to go back to school and learn about efficiency and battery life in newer chip designs.

I would imagine they may be sitting on gen 6's for Black Friday for $199, but I don't really want to partake in that pandemonium, I'd rather spend Thanksgiving with Family and Friends...

(meh - Gamestop just paid me $110 cash for my old Gen 5)

What pandemonium? Amazon delivered it for $220 :) Wasnt a door buster at all! Got it some time between Thanksgiving and Christmas during the endless sale competition on the iPads last year.

I couldn't possibly be any less interested in any Apple device than this lame derivative stock clearance iteration. The "new" iPod touch, perhaps?

Actually if you had just ignored this thread instead of injecting an inane comment, it would have showed less interest on your part. You’re obviously interested enough to announce your disinterest even though no one asked or cares.

This is a great device for the kiddos and other normal folks who couldn’t care less about specs.

Personally I think the best bang-for-buck is the current air. For most people, the $300 bump to the pro isn't worth it.

I got my (used) 10.5” Pro with cellular for less than the price of a new wi-fi only Air, so it was a no-brainer.

Not the 11” Pro if that’s what you’re referring to.
