Both AppleInsider and independent MacRumors sources claim that Apple has seeded the first builds of 10.4.1 to developers. The build is said to fix more than 20 bugs already reported to Apple regarding various software and hardware incompatabilities with Tiger. Key issues regarding stability and reliability of the OS as a whole are the focus, along with user issues with certain D-link networking equipment.

According to the rumor site, the forthcoming update is expected to be released mid to late-May.

Waiting for 10.4.1

That's one reason I'm waiting for this update before installing Tiger. I'm normally and early adopter, but I'm totally in crunch time at work and can't afford to have tons of quirky problems.

10.4 Graphics

please... please please...

Of course I feel they can always improve on graphics drivers... but 10.4 did wonders over 10.3

For one even under 'reduced' CPU setting my Marine Aquarium SS at 1920X1600 (or whatever is the highest a 23inch HD from APPLE goes) shows marked FPS improvement.

390 to 392 was on 10.3

and

430 to 435 on 10.4

Not that visually you can tell that but the numbers don't lie! :p

i dont know about anyone else but my dash sorta runs funny sometimes. it says about once a day weatherdashboardclient has unexpectedly quit. thats about the only "bug for me with tiger so far

Anyone else think this is critically stupid? A patch released to developers within a week of the OS being released? Bitch all you want about MS but their Consumer Beta Program is a cool idea that Apple should really consider adopting because it sounds as if this release is in response to complaints post release. If Apple had a generic beta program they could probably iron out a lot more of these bugs before the OS goes GM.

Hopefully this will fix my issues with QT7, but I doubt it.

what issues do you have w/ QT 7? i'm having issues with it too. when i minimize a playing movie i can't reopen it from the docked window, instead i have to click on the quicktime icon rather than the actual movie. also skipping ahead during a quicktime movie causes the little timeline indicator to freeze. really hope they fix this cause qt 7 is sweet.

Safari Bugs

I have also noticed some strange and intermitent quirks in Safari that are very annoying. Anyone else come accross such bugs?

Not necessarily post GM fixes

Apple Software Engineers were under pressure to get the GM out. Remember the GM was frozen at least a month before the release date. However, all the fixes they have identified after the freeze date is rolled into this update. Don't think that this is only to address problems found after the public got it.

I'm anxious for the update. I have noticed some glitches and have had to restart a few times (or was too impatient for the computer to work itself out of a mess). QT7 impresses and discourages at the same time, nice H.264 stuff, why does it now need to flatten a movie when saving off the web?, kind of jumpy, and I hate that little launch window. The only way I am able to open anything into Adobe CS is by launching the app and then selecting the open menu. I can't double click, go from iPhoto, drag to the dock icon, etc. Overall Tiger seems nervous, being way faster at most things but then hanging and thinking for a bit way too often. I have had to quit the dock a few times. My networking seems unstable and moody. I can't print to my network printer. Oh and still since 10.2 in column view if you arrow down a list and then shift click away from where you landed it doesn't select the range. You need to click on that item and then shift click away. Also open a window and make it look like you want, close it, open it up again, it views differently (like icon view instead of column view). The best fix I have for this is open a window, change it to column view, RESIZE IT, close it before navigating, open it again and it keeps. I like dashboard but the widgets seem too stiff in a lot of ways like the Fed Ex tracker isn't wide enough to show the time of each line of info but I can't resize the window or text. Also, with a medium or small screen those widgets get very crowded very quickly, we need an expose of the widgets feature. Overall I am very impressed with Tiger though.

For most of those who say that Tiger has given them NO problems, I say this: You haven't done everything there is to do in Tiger yet, then. Because there ARE bugs. Whether or not you've encountered them is entirely due to you, but they are there. We all got the same build of Tiger shipped out to us and they do exist. Have no worries. Apple will take care of them.

I tried to simulate your problems in QT7 but everything worked just fine. I tested a standard DV 30 second movie. Those H.264 movie trailers are big files and take a lot of processing I think because the most glitchyness I have seen is with them.

This is the kind of news I look forward to hearing. A few more updates to Tiger and I will be ready to buy it. Until then everyone can just Beta test it for Apple. :D

I haven't had that one yet. In fact no problems with dashboard just that I have too many to fit on my screen.

Yeah, I totally agree. Just think that when people start threads that claim that QT7 and Tiger or not compatible at all, and that it is impossible to run QT7 on Tiger, or that Safari 2 is incompatible with Tiger....

With Panther, it seemed to take 3-4 weeks for a seeded OS dot upgrade to get finished. I say that if Apple releases a 10.4.1 in a month, bravo to them. :)

NOW, to see if I can score a month of uptime till then! :D

Safari is a dog. I get that damn spinning beachball very frequently. I think it might have to so with Java Scripting. I'm going to turn that off in the preferences and see if it makes a difference.
