oh crap...I was just reading about this on Digg....looks like a real issue. I'm not updating now my Intel Mac now...the PPC updated fine so far...
but popping speakers would be very annoying...

anyone else have this issue?

I'll just throw a confirmation in that my two PPC macs -- do not seem to be showing this; although both have 10.4.10 but NOT the new Security Update as of yet.

Well, that's the file that's supposed to be there, and it has the right permissions. You could try deleting that directory (rm -rf .Spotlight-V100), and then repeating the mdutil etc commands you tried earlier.

Well.. thanx for all the help. I think I'll just reinstall my OS X as I haven't done so since I bought it in 2005. Cheers!!! :)

Anyone else getting an absurd amount of kernel panics? My boot drive on my quad g5 was telling me that it had issues in Disk Utility, so I swapped it out with a backup that was in good shape.

...Now that drive is in the exact same condition. It's not passing disk verification in Disk Utility, and neither that nor DiskWarrior can fix it. Help?

10.4.10 problems - odd sound from speakers

Hi, now when I boot-up there's an odd sound from the speakers, followed by an identical sound a few minutes later - like scraping metal on a high-speed wheel. Anyone else notice this?

Reinstalled OS X

Hi Peeps, I've just reinstalled my OS X. Updated to OS 10.4.10. Everythings seems ok. BUT.. I haven't update the security 2007-006. Any risk to that? I'm using a G5 iMac.

I updated my Mac Pro 3 ghz 4 core to 10.4.10 plus all the other stuff in the auto update .... no problems at all.

I had a Kernel Panic on 10.4.10 - first one I've had for well over a year. (It happened when unplugging an iPod.) It hasn't repeated so far, but was a little unexpected...

I hate the thought of updating my system as it can introduce problems sometimes. My Mac came with 10.4.8 installed and I haven't updated it yet. Granted it's only a few weeks old but if it ain't broke..........
