True, but it'd be nice if there was a glossary of common problems and how to fix them. The search feature on MR can be hit or miss a lot of the time. Is there a wiki section for this kind of thing already?

Thanks, that seems to have fixed the problem. Maybe a sticky should be made of this issue (and the fix) or at least some kind of wiki page?

Didnt fix it for me, I re-index the HD and I still dont have this function... I'll try it again, but are there any other ideas?

I noticed this also so I opened calculator, type in 4+4-8, then Checked the spotlight function and it worked fine afterwards.

This might have been mentioned, but I think I accidentally came across a fix in Onyx... Try installing Onyx and follow the picture attached, and see if checking the Calculator option will fix your problem... Good luck!

My Fix

So...I had this problem where my spotlight would no longer do math calculations. I would type in 2+2 and nothing...random stuff in documents, but no 4. I looked around and the best answer I found was reupdate with a combo updater. I downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.6.dmg from apple downloads and reupdated. Spotlight works fine now. 2+2=4.
