I cannot get this to work on my MacBook Air. I have tried the terminal commands, i have tried deleting it then putting the new one in. i tried to repair the start up disk right after. NOTHING!.

I have no idea how. Everyone says its so easy. But it just does not want to work for me.

Well I have tried this on my MBA and it worked fine. I would suggest restoring your system to time machine back up from BEFORE you started this and repeating the steps exactly. I don't want to sound like a teacher or something but I think that you should go back and try and make sure you haven't accidentally missed a step out. The fact it has worked so well and easily for others must mean there's something gone wrong in deleting it and putting it back in. Good luck :)

To the OP: thank you so much. A very elegant hack and super useful. Seriously probably up there with the most useful thing I have read/used on this site. :D:D:D

D:apple:

I seem to get intermitant freezing with mine, especially when using Garageband

Could someone please email me their original kext file (not the 4 finger swipe one), as my original kext appears to have got corrupted and doesn't work anymore.

I have a 15" 2.5ghz Penyrn MBP, would be greatly appreciated if I got the kext from someone with the exact same machine as me.

Thanks for anyone that can help.

The hack worked just fine on My Penryn MBP... but it messed up the keyboard backlight and light sensor. They started to have a weird behavior. the keys light was randomly turning on and off. When covering the light sensors, the keys will not lit up... some times when uncovering the sensor, the keys lit up! also when hitting the f5 and f6 keys (backlit adjust) the action is not allowed. finally, Under System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse, the option "Illuminate Keyboard in low light conditions" is randomly turning on and off! I mean, I tick it, close the Panel. Then when I open it again, the control is unticked!

So I reverted back to the original file and everything is back to normal. Can anybody else confirm this issue?

Honestly...

I don't know why some people want to have those gesture on. I have a very last MBP 2.5 (non-unibody) and there's this three finger swipe which annoys the hell outta me

Trouble is, there's no actual way of switching it off or disabling it. Instead I just disable the the built in trackpad and use a mouse. And you folks wanna enable the feature?

I love the gestures. I use the 4-finger swipes all the time, for expose and for tabbing between applications.

And of course, 3 fingers for going back and fourth in Safari.

Love these, and find them very useful.

I know this says its for early 2008 MBP, but I bought my laptop at the end of december 2007.
I have
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Would it work on my MBP?

Thanks

Still works in 10.5.7

Once I did the update it stopped working, reinstalled the kext and it works again.

Could you..

Could you please post what version of trackpad is this applicable to? The reason I ask is because although I bought my MBP in late 2007, the trackpad and keyboard have been replaced since and I was wondering if they used a different board (such as the one for 2008 - as they look the same). I think it would be more useful to quote what version etc etc. of trackpad this is applicable to. If somebody other than the programmer is trying to help here's what you do: If this worked for you, go to APPLE on top left corner>click About this Mac>Click More Info> Go to USB and copy paste your Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad info

Thank you

10.5.8

When I download this file, there isn't a .kext file inside to replace. Instead there is a folder called Contents.

I already know how to do the process but could someone please explain to me what to do now that there is not a .kext file when I unzip.

I'm running 10.5.8

EDIT: I got the file, but now it says that I do not have sufficient privileges. How can I fix this? I am admin

EDIT: I got it

Hi,
Could you please enlighten me on how you finally did it. I'm getting told I do not have sufficient privileges to edit that file. (admin account). It worked fine after the 10.5.7 update, but now don't have sufficient privileges.

Edit:Never mind...doh!

They'll be enabled by default in snow leopard.

I didn't want to start a new thread, I have snow leopard with four finger swipes enabled but I can't four finger swipe? I have tried repairing permissions but nothing?

EDIT: Repaired permissions but didn't restart it! Silly billy all working :)

I'm confused by your post. So it came with Snow Leopard but then it didn't work until you repaired permissions? Or rather, it DIDN'T come with Snow Leopard and you had to copy the file again?

It came with Snow Leopard, but it wasn't working. I don't know why, but wasn't sure if it had something to do with the file already used on here. But after repairing permissions and restarting, all gestures were working fine.

Problems--keyboard/mouse not functional now :(

Hi all...

I read a thread on how to update their old macbook pro (2008) to have 4 finger swipe function (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/617645/)

Others got it to work but I seem to hv got myself into big problems now
after rebooting my keyboard and mouse are not responding and so I cant login!

I just got the new unibody MBP and I have connected to my old MBP by firewire and can access the hardrive...
Would really appreciate some help on what to do now to get it back to working again!!

I tried to find the appleusbmultitouch.kext file (previous one) I deleted into trash to try to move it back but i cant seem to find or access the trash from the hardrive ....Thanks for any advice!
