I'll try upgrading on one of my computers. If all goes well and my critical apps still work in SL then I'll do the others.

Wipe and clean install. I always do that with new OS releases, even if they are only 'service pack upgrades'.

I use it as a time to clean house, make sure every thing is backed up and just general maintenance stuff.

Newbie mac guy. Just received my iMac a week ago. I reckon I will be doing a fresh update since I have not install much apps into it.

agreed, its far too much work to set everything up again!

You can do an Archive and Install + copy apps/settings, or a full wipe and clean install + Migration Assistant, and your Mac will basically set itself back up for you, without having to risk the issues of an upgrade-in-place.

The only app I'm concerned about making the transition to SL is iMovie HD 6. It is, IMO, a billion times better than '08 or '09, and I'll be using it until I get the cash to make the jump to FCS.

haha, if you read the last post on the last page you would notice that i said i will be doing an archive + install

seeing as this will likely be the last OS upgrade on this machine (10.7 being 64-bit only maybe?), I'm going to do a nice and clean erase and install. I want the max benefit of snow leopard and don't mind the re-installation hassle one more time

argh i sure hope not!! i want my CD machine to last at least another 3 years!

If they'd leave the G5s out in the cold so they could dump PPC from 10.6, it's not too much of a stretch that they'd in turn leave the Core Duo's outside to dump off IA-32.

oh I dont mind if they stop support after 10.6. I'm still going to run my MBP until it dies:) I'm pretty sure that will be at least another 4-5 years at least...

no i dont mind either, i will of course still use it! im hoping for 3 years, but 4-5 would be great.

this machine has been to slow for me for the past year at least (i am very demanding haha) - i can easily use 4GB of RAM and bring my top spec iMac to a crawl.. so yea moving back to my MBP is very hard :( the battery life sucks too!

I've yet to do a clean install on my macbook. I've had it for a about 10 months now, and I'm kinda thinking when SL comes out i'll do a clean install just to make sure everything is nice and fresh and there are not issues.
Besides, restoring apps from Time Machine should be painless...

My way!!

I wipe front to back.
Also, if it's a particular messy deposit, I will upgrade using some baby wipes to get the extra "clean" install feeling..

I will do an upgrade for my brothers macbook pro (since he just got it and there is almost nothing on it)
an archive install on mine

Then 6 months later (next semester of school) do a clean install (possibly on both computers)

Just upgrade.

I have the current build installed on the iMac and it was upgraded from Leopard. It works just as fast as a new install on a 2nd partition.
