If you don't like Launchpad, don't use it. Believe it or not "Applications" is still available from the Go menu in Finder, or you can add Applications to a stack on your dock.

There's no need to disable it.

There is a need to disable it.

Removing it from the dock still brings it up when an application is downloaded and installed via App Store.

I'd like to see an option to completely disable it (or even completely remove it). I absolutely hate launchpad and find it completely useless.

well, as much as you like it, some of us HATE it. would be nice to have options (something like we have in desktop icon size, dock, etc...)

As much as you hate it, some of us like it :p

I do agree that some increased control would go a long way in insuring that the broadest scale of users are happy with it.

Looks EXACTLY something like this?

Application+Menu.png

Yea it looks like that. But since I always hide my dock and just have to move my finger to have my applications appear. I dont have to move the cursor or anything and click for the application folder to appear. So much more practical with Launchpad.

I like it, better use of space. all that empty space between the apps before was wasted.

Better use of space =/= putting things closer together and making them bigger. The spacing in the old launchpad gave it a much more calm and cleaner look, now it just looks chaotic and in-your-face.

I think you'll get used to it.

What actually pisses me off is that I really liked launchpad... so having these HUGE icons is annoying.

:(

There must be a way to adjust this with a plist or defaults command, I don't even know where to begin though. Mine are HUGE!

Yeah the icons are too big. It really looks ugly as heck now. I'm hoping that there is a terminal hack.

*waits patiently for macosxhints*

I liked launchpad... now it just looks dumb to me. At least make it a setting Apple... sigh

This must be a joke. First thing I thought when opened Launchpad in new update "****, some bug made the resolution low, I'm going to restart". But realised that it's like this now... It's awful.

In addition, related to Launchpad, when I move the icons in Launchpad (recollocate them), very often they freeze there and also show in the middle of the screen when I go to dock. It hasn't been fixed. It's very annoying because it happens really really often... Do you guys have this bug too? (Just move some icons in Launchapd to reproduce the bug if existing)

:)

Nope. Nothing lags, everything is very smooth. I just tried to move around like 20 icons...

I think the size of your screen will play a part in whether you like this change or not.

I use an 11 inch MacBook Air and previously the icons were so small it was really impractical. I much prefer the new size because it makes the apps easier to spot on the small screen.

I can imagine though that if you have a nice big iMac or similar then maybe the apps were already easy to spot before. When I looked at them before on my Mac Mini (on a 37" TV) the size never bothered me.

As everyone says, a setting to change this to your preference will make everyone happy so let's hope Apple do that.

Same issue here. Very ugly, and looks slapped together. Is this what happens w/o Steve? Neatness disappears? Also in addition to my log in screen, there is a guess one... Can't turn it off in System Preferences... It reboots the Mac into that Safari only mode. How do I get ride of that other user account.

Wow. People actually use LaunchPad.

Lion is the first mac OS I've used since GS/OS, and I've found that doing the
four finger pinch to bring up the launchpad has made things very accessible for me.

I think it would be interesting to grade people's satisfaction with the launchpad sizes compared to their screen size/resolution.

i don't use launchpad either, i think alfred and application launchers are so much faster and an overall much better work ethic.

however, launchpad is cool , not even if only to show off to your friends... and i mostly use it when i can remember an app name.

hack

maybe there is a console hack for restoring the original layout, could someone please come with something pleaaase, this sucks !!!

I feel like i have lost half of my screen resolution, that was one of the reasons i bought a mac in the first place.(this is my first mac) launchpad still looks ugly when hooked up to my 20" monitor.

This is unlike Apple, hope they don't do this on iOS ;)
