That's not a dock. That's just a part of the springboard that's held in place as you move through the homescreens. You can't access it when running an app for instance.

They've already removed the indicator lights to show what's running as default, making it more of a place to launch apps. ie. another launchpad.
In Apple's mind, why bother having a dock cluttering your view, when you can pull a gesture and access all your icons via Launchpad.
The indicator lights are turned on by default in the build you get from the Mac App Store (which I suppose is the same as GM). They can also be seen in Apple's marketing images all over their website.
Because customers who upgrade will be used to them.
They'll be switched off by default for new customers who buy a desktop or MBP.

That is what I believed too, but on my new Macbook Air the indicator lights are on by default.

Launchpad icon
Has anyone noticed that the Launchpad icon in Lion is the same as the little rocketship icon in Game Center on iOS? The one on the left-hand side of the "Top Game Centre Games" banner? It must mean something! (kidding)

Lion won't boot...
I just installed Lion on my Mini (mid 2010) and after it won't boot if I have any USB devices plugged in. After I take them out it boots fine.
I have a few devices that work fine after I plug them in after the boot.
anyone else have this problem?

try resetting pram, and the smc (check apple site or google for specifics on the smc reset...)

Don't be pedantic. It doesn't matter whether it "part of the springboard." It serves the same purpose as the dock. And my OS X doc isn't visible when I am running "apps" either (I hide it). And the dock on iOS is accessible when running an app - that's what the home key is for.
I've never really needed the old school Mac Guided Tours, but I always had fun watching them, and was able to learn a thing or two.
So I'm wondering, where is the Lion Guided Tour? Because this time more than ever, I feel like I need it, the changes in Lion I feel are a pretty steep learning curve (I had less trouble switching from Windows to Leopard than I do SL to Lion), not that Lion is bad, but to use Lion 'properly' requires a bit of a shift in the normal thinking of how one has used a computer in the past (how many ever years one has been using a computer). And I think it would also help with a lot of the people who are having a hard time adjusting on the forums etc.

Using Chrome, fullscreen button is available...until you fullscreen at which dock wont appear and there is no fullscreen button to get out. Esc doesnt work, only way out is View - Exit Full Screen.

Don't know if someone has already mentioned this in previous pages (too many to look through!!) but you can still allocate apps to certain desktop spaces.
1. Select the space you want the app to always open in
2. Open the app in that space.
3. Right click on the app icon in the dock and go to the 'Options' sub-menu
4. Towards the bottom there is an 'Assign To' section where you can select:
- 'None' - default option
- 'This desktop' - app will always open on that specific desktop
- 'All desktops' - means that as you move between Spaces the app stays in place and is always shown even as the rest of the desktop changes, perfect for a chat app

Yes, I was wondering if I was the only one who had noticed, as I hadn't seen anyone mention it yet. I first noticed it with the new iTunes 10.4 in Snow Leopard, then it showed up everywhere in Lion. I approve.
I was just snapping photos in photobooth and went to upload them to facebook and couldn't. Had to "show package contents" and move the photos into a folder in order to upload them. It didn't used to do that right? annoying...
And slightly annoying but I'm getting used to it (and makes sense) is if my laptop is open but went to sleep I can't just touch the touchpad or move my mouse, I need to click to bring the screen back up.
