I still have the 13pm with a battery capacity of 77% which gets me through most of the day with pretty moderate usage. I haven’t seen a reason to upgrade to be honest and I still don’t. Well see what they announce at the awe event but I’m inclined to just pay the $99 or whatever it is and get a new battery. I could care less about a foldable phone but I just want some type of innovation beyond all of the useless crap they’re slapping on the phone.

Unhappy with my pixel 9 so far, keeping an eye on the iPhone this year. Pixel started off strong, but...
  1. software updates made the phone suck at PHONE CALLS for half of this year, and it still isn't back to 100% of where it was after many more updates.
  2. voice dictation, my most used feature, stops mid-sentence ALL THE TIME.
  3. Voice commands in android auto = mostly OK. But ask it anything out of the ordinary, "sorry, I didn't understand" (I could ask it about actors in a movie on older pixels, but not now for some reason).
  4. Gemini assistant gets simple things like weather reports completely wrong.
  5. Gemini is slower and much MUCH buggier than the old Google assistant.
But it takes GREAT photos.

The last iPhone I bought (and am currently using) is the iPhone 15 Pro. I reluctantly upgraded to it from the iPhone 12 mini and Google Pixel 8 that I was bopping around between. The iPhone 16 updates seemed so minor, and this new round of iPhone 17 updates are equally lame. Up until yesterday I was getting ready to go in on the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, but then I started to reminisce about my iPhone mini, and am now also considering either purchasing an iPhone 13 mini or switching back to my Google Pixel 8. I really miss having great one-handed usability, but all of these companies have lost their way on that.

FWIW, the Google Pixel 8 is on my short list because I use, and really like, all of the Google apps (which, largely, run just fine on my iPhone, but Google offers a slightly better integrated experience with their Pixel phones). I also really like the round watch display that Google's Wear OS offers, as I consider a watch to be equal parts functionality and fashion. My Apple Watch Ultra (1st gen) is an impressive piece of tech, but the squarish display and locked-down & limited watch face offerings limit its appeal on the "fashion" end of the spectrum.

For larger-screen on-the-go needs, I'm anticipating purchasing a new iPad Pro 11 (I'll likely wait for the latest model to get announced) with Magic Keyboard. I'd then give my iPad Pro 13 w/Magic Keyboard to my wife. I tried dabbling with the latest-gen iPad mini, but I need a full-size (or, at least, nearly full-size) keyboard and decent trackpad, and all of the 3rd party options I might use with the iPad mini pale in comparison to the Magic Keyboard experience, and you don't really save any travel bulk once you start adding a protective screen cover, keyboard, & trackpad to the iPad mini as compared to the iPad Pro 11 w/Magic Keyboard.

And for still-larger (and more powerful) needs, I've got my recently-purchased MacBook Pro 14.

But back to the phones...It sucks that I need to compromise and go with older-gen technology in order to get an optimal one-handed UX and a minimally-sized (pocket-friendly) phone. A Pixel 10 Pro mini or an iPhone 17 Pro mini (and new round-faced Apple Watch) would be my ideal options, but neither exist.

I’m really torn. I had a 12 Pro, then went to a 14PM, then to my current 15PM.

I’ve had my 15PM since October of the launch year, and my battery health is still 95%. I’m an average user, but I like the larger screen size so it’d always be a PM. But, the size and performance gains are moot for me really, as I primarily want the PM models for the camera. I used to carry a DSLR around with me which gave great results, but it was bulky. It does take great photos, but obv. not a replacement for an SLR. I take a lot of photos and whilst I have found the 15PM to have a great camera, when I use it a lot I notice the heat that builds up and the throttling: more so in Portrait mode.

The camera improvements look good especially combined with the RAM increase, but this is still a bloody great phone. Selling through a mobile recycler (it would be graded as excellent as it has one scratch on one corner) would give me £600 towards it, and I do love orange too, but I almost feel like it’s pointless. If I spent another year taking photos with this phone, would I be disappointed? No I wouldn’t. But each year the phone gets older, it’s worth less on trade-ins so any future purchase should hit my wallet a little harder.

It’s a tough call for sure, really conflicted!

Buying a 256Gb 17 Pro here. I need to cycle the phones in the family as the oldest (iPhone 12) is getting a little cranky. I'm getting the new shiny one!

I don't even care what the specs are. This is routine replacement territory. I just buy a new phone every 2 years and they last long enough to get through 4 people without an issue.

Others rumours I’ve seen are the Vapor chamber finally to be included. That one’s had lots of rumours on that. Less common rumours are shrinking the Dynamic Island and brighter screens. That unlike the OP they won’t be using the same screens as last year. The base model to get a 120MHz screen.
