Absolutely.
Methinks I'll stick with Mojave until I switch to an Apple Silicon Mac (which I'll decide on when Apple have a full range of laptops and desktops to choose from) - at which point I know I'm going to have to accept some changes in which software I use (starting with ditching Windows virtualisation - which isn't a deal-breaker but is still a minor hassle).

It's not that I want to hate on any of these Monterey (or Big Sur) features, but they're pretty weak beer alongside the hassle of dealing with a major compatibility-breaking OS upgrade, possibly having to upgrade various bits of third-party software and (certainly when upgrading past Mojave) probably having to retire a few unsupported apps.

OK, so I'm stuck a version behind on (e.g.) Logic - but then I'd almost certainly lose a bunch of plug-ins & pay $$$ to upgrade a few more.

For people already on Big Sur (which is likely to be the mass extinction event for abandonware) I guess the question is how much third-party software needs upgrading for Monterey...?
People are happily virtualizing Windows on M1 Macs and yet this urban legend that one can’t virtualize Windows on M1 Macs keeps raising its ugly head.

So please show me where I can actually buy a license for Windows on ARM to run on VM... as opposed to a "preview" version that could be withdrawn at any stage.

I use 1Password heavily. Most items on the Logins category are just the username, password, and 2FA, but a handful of them have additional details, such as security Q&A, PIN, recovery code, and account ID.

I have migrated some to Apple's Notes app, but the experience is predictably not ideal.

In all likelihood, I will keep 1Password 7 around as an archive, without the browser extension.
Okay. Thanks for that.

I would like secrets management in software by Apple, whether it be keychain on steroids or something new. But it seems not quite there yet to ditch 1pw, as much as I’d like to.

With MacOS Monterey I'm finally able to connect my Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones via bluetooth. I'm on a 13in M1 MBP. Oddly enough, before it wasn't able to hold the connection. This has already made me happy.

Are we talking about virtualizing Windows on the M1 Mac now or virtualizing Windows on the M1 Mac some time in the indefinite future?

If we are talking about now, you can do it. I can’t predict the future, can you? Are you sure you will be alive when Microsoft decides to withdraw the “technical preview”? Because if you are not sure, you may be fine with the way things are with Windows virtualization on the M1 Mac as it stands now. There is no issue with Windows virtualization on the M1 Mac right now, as there hasn’t been for almost a year now. Whether or not there may be an issue in the future I can’t predict.

You can’t currently buy a legitimate, production license to run Windows on the M1 Mac. MS have specifically said that it is unsupported. That’s a pretty big issue.

If the “technical preview“ works for you that’s nice - but MS could withdraw it tomorrow, could stop providing updates, replace it with a less stable version or fix their activation to actually enforce their EULA (which you’re probably breaking) and you’d be stuffed. Even if they don’t, you are still, essentially, relying on a perpetual and ever-changing “beta” of Windows.

I hope that will get fixed in the future, but the state of the art is “do you feel lucky”.

And I could die tonight, so it wouldn’t matter to me. No one can predict what’s going to happen in the future, not even what’s going to happen in a minute.

Full marks for hyperbole, but I'm not trying to interfere in your personal risk management decisions. Go ahead and do what you want with your own machine- but maybe don't keep claiming that "There is no issue with Windows virtualization on the M1" when there is, but you've just dismissed it as "whatever, YOLO!".

Does anyone know why the Memoji Avatar on the login page is blurry? (It also used to be the case on non-Memoji images.) It only happens when I start or restart the computer, not when I'm logged out after the screensaver or else. I'd love to fix it.

It’s not worth at all when all your common used VST are not up to date yet. I don’t get it, every year there must be slighty some different in the code for keeping me upgrading till most stuff are available to use on the newer OS
