I have a feeling that Erase & Install may be a better option. Of course that is after a manual backup has been performed.
Agree. A clean reinstall of the OS should be performed (after backup of course) then if these problems presist, I would look to faulty hardware, RAM, motherboard or HD.
Just know that no matter how many problems you experience, things are worse with Windows VISTA!
The village idiot gives his worthless $.02 yet again.

wow. Someone explain?

Applecare is must have bare none! Umm, you could barely afford the computer in the first place?? Uh Yeah Okay...You didn't have to buy the black model, you could have bought the white one with the same specs and used the difference on Applecare.
At any rate someone mentioned Archive and Install and that's the best option and most likely will fix your issue as your issue is only software related, your System Folder just needs replacing.

ok ok, i kinda half lied about barely affording the computer. never mind that though. When i checked my computer out at macmall (back in june)i never even saw a applecare thing to buy, so i never really thought about it. I guesses i just skipped over it. I save my money, and if you knew me personally you would know i don't spend money often. I was so entranced with having the specs and everything right i never even thought about applecare. Even if i did see apple care i prolly wouldn't had payed $250 for it. When i bought my xbox i did buy something that guaranteed it to me for 2 years, simply because it was only 20 bucks.

just for the record i think the white macbook looks like a cheap plastic toy. no offense to anyone who has one. Getting the black was a no brainer for me, it may not be for everyone though. And if i could go back into time and change my order i wouldn't. I think i made a fine decision.

So lately i have been having problems with my macbook. I will try to give as much detail as possible.
I had something similar with my PB15 running Tiger.

It ended up being a bad MoBo (Logic Board).

BTW, when I ran a hardware check it came back okay -- even with Tech Tools.

I would suggest that you take it to your local Apple Store and have them take a look at it.

Another option, if you are in the mood to troubleshoot your problem, then you try the following:
- Back up your files.
- Securely erase the HD with one pass.
- Do a clean install.

See if this makes it work any better.

ok guys thanks for the help.

my biggest problem is really the sound. it sucks to not be able to do anything with sound.

also for number 10 problem our new base staion came in today and i will set that up, it might work then. by the way, the base station came in one day, around 30 hours, when we ordered ground shipping, which is like i dunno at least 3 days. Just thought that was interesting.

Ok, so if problems keep occurring some people are saying archive and install and some are saying clean install after backup. Which one is it? Please give a reason why i should do one over the other one.

(i never really understood what those grey disk that came with my computer did, if your bored explain to me what they do, vs a regular tiger disk, considering when i got my computer leopard wasn't out.)

Thanks a bunch guys

You need to back up your data so that you do not loose it.

A clean install, after doing a security erase will leave your disk in a virginal state with no data on it, is the best way to ensure that you have a good install.

Upgrades sometimes do not work.

Archive and install leaves old data on the HD. So if there is any bad info on your MBR or partition map, it will remain.

The disks that came with your computer, allow you to set it up the way it was originally including any extras that Apple included at the time.

A regular Tiger disk may or may not work depending on what version of Tiger it is, and what version your computer requires as a minimum. You will find this out when you go to install Tiger from the Tiger disk and it says you cannot install this version of the OS.

Personally, I would give your Tiger install disk a try. If it won't work, then use the install disks that came with your MB.

I don't think a regular Tiger disk would work as they never shipped the retail disks for Intel macs so you would have to use those little grey disks that came with your mac.

You are lucky there are only 2, I remember getting one machine with about 8 CDs (iBook G4 I think).

I got the grey-colored up sound box too. I couldn't get sound out of my PB after installing 10.5.2 so I did a fresh install of Leopard and it seems fine now? *scratches head*
