I don't know why people come in here and bark all day about stupid threads like this.

If anything, this is just a repeat thread just like the millions on these boards and people should be using search before creating new posts.

That said. The top 10 is clearly utterly garbage and just another fanboy rant. Clearly, you haven't done your research or you think pumping out the highest specs on a phone is really whats important. It's like those people who buy special knives that are aero dynamic and can cut the wind. ... really?

From what I'm seeing, all people do is look at a spec sheet and assuming that phone is better. Well guess what? It's NOT!! Every true developer and technie should know that optimization is king and as far as I can tell....the iphone 3g and iphone 3gs runs more fluid on their respective 400 and 600mhz arm that some snapdragon.

Snappy my a##. It's all about the context in which you perceive as snappy. Just like how when you buy a windows computer, its really snappy then after loading a million program, it tends to slow down.

I really don't know why people are complaining about something so trivial and worthless in the grand scheme of things....it's a F****** phone!!!!! My god, new ones come out every year. And Why in god's name are ranting IN AN IPHONE FORUM!~!!!!~~~!!!!! Jesus!! It's like your life in justification. "if i buy this iphone, will people accept me for who I am" No...they won't, they accept you know and certainly don't accept you for writing a pointless thread. These boards are so ridiculous...so many bi-polar people. The way I see it, it's like this....You're on the internet, and you hide behind that computer screen of yours and you think you know the world Rah rah rah.

And what annoys me the most....... the 10 reasons aren't even good reasons. I mean bring better answers than:

"smaller screen"...WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?! 64 inch plasma Phone? Iphone matches up in same screen size of that of incredible and other phones. my god.....just take you phone and duck tape it to an ipad. ...oh wait don't do that because then the STUPID!!!! giant iphone jokes will come back and you'll probably make another useless top 10 chart.

Better battery life? ...serious? what do you do on your phone? and so much for that argument....incredible and evo 4g have been quoted as having terrible battery life. "BUT BUT BUT........It's coooll and in that time i'm doing awesome things......" Oh really? like what....dave chapelle app? I'm using AIRVIDEO watch movies over the air. ...oh yeah AIRVIDEO isn't on the marketplace.

EBOOKs? you are really complaining about EBOOKS. Do you even know what a book is? have you read a book other than winnie the pooh? I mean seriously, this is just hating for hatings. It's like saying I don't listen to music, yet I complain about the music player on my phone. Get real.

Processor? Seriously? ..........the A4 processor on the Ipad running at 1024x768 resolution nearly beat froyo....no wait..i think it did beat it.
hmm isn't iphone a 960x480 resolution? its going render close to how it is rendered on the ipad.

which brings me back to battery....where you have been? The A4 processor and battery are making the ipad ridiculously long on battery life. Who knows what it can do on the mobile phone.

wireless syncing? Seriously....so basically, you want me to go a ford escort because the ford can play music through bluetooth but my BMW m3 can't. Really? One feature....dominating reason for people to switch. Really? Keep your ford escort.

multi-tasking? .... i won't even start. but i'll say a couple things in that....this is a tool comment. You are following what some moron said? Multitasking, other than pandora or music playing in the background....DOES NOT EXIST ON PHONE. You have only 3.5 inches of real estate, the speed in whcih you move in an out of apps, basically you aren't multi-tasking...you are switching from one app to another...very quickly. And also...4.0??? Anyone.

More storage? OMG!!! NEED MORE THAN 32GBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB FOR ALL THOSE PORNOOOOZZZZ OMG BBQ. LOL go ahead buy an overpriced 64GB microsim. It's not like you can put apps currently right now....OH ...............SNAP.

One more things: Why do people compare new phones to a phone that came out ONE YEAR AGO!. In my opinion, by doing that...YOU HAVE LOST the argument.

It's like comparing that same ford escort to the model T. If you feel like the iphone is a model T and you still have to compare them...dude...you lost.

That said, I have no disrespect for the Android platform. Yeah...sure makes sense. People want an iphone like phone. ATT is a douche bag of a company and if people don't want to change. I applaude them to take a stand and this was exactly how Google and Android can capitalize. But there is reason why editors and many many top highly tech reviews still have a iphone. It's because the Android isn't ready. The marketplace (as much as it's getting some steam) carries 2nd level talent and you can clearly CLEARLY see that. The operating system, google is rushing EVERYTHING OUT and thus hasn't worked out the bugs. Also, throwing in multiple ARM configurations just makes matters worse. ANd basically its going to happen all over again.....that 2ghz snapdragon DBZ SUPER SAIYAN edition is only as effective as that 1.5 GHZ apple A4308403802938S processor.

And if you compare megapixels as the reason for a better camera.....you should lose your camera or never have camera controls again. I too will try the evo tommorrow because i want some different not because I think its better. People need to seriously wake up, there is a reason why everytime i go into a sprint or verizon or t-mobile store...someone asks when the iphone is coming. This is a not a close contest....iphone on every carrier and you really see the buying power of the consumer.

But hey...when you don't have fruit loops, you go to cheerios. Same s*** they both need milk.

Is that long enough for ya, mr. I really don't want go back and get his name?

p.S.
F. KOBE!!!! MJ G.O.A.T!!!!!!! Go Celtics!!!!

I only need one reason not to get one..

1. I'm not a gadget whore. "Oh lookie! I can control it with my finger!" *simple person laugh*

In all honesty here, guys and gals, you all need to take a step back and re-read the first couple of posts the OP made in this thread. You guys are literally shooting the messenger instead of the person who wrote the message. The OP quoted someone else who came up with those reasons, and also cited the article which it came from. But instead, you assume that the OP wrote this, and proceed to rip him a new one. Honestly, take a step back and look at yourselves. I'm pretty sure you've heard the saying "Don't shoot the messenger." Well, you've shot, maimed, and Jeffrey Dahmer'd the guy without taking it all into perspective. Think about it.

Second, it's already been shown and debated here that just about everything in the OP's quote from the cited article is bollocks, so call a spade a spade, move on, and wait until Monday. Then go after the guy who ORIGINALLY WROTE the article. IIRC, the authors from the Telegraph have their email addresses posted with the article. Go to town on HIM, not the OP.

BL.

Off topic

OP,
Why list a Caviar black in your sig? I've a pair, plus some random 1.5TB for storage (not really bragging rights?)... 300gig velociraptor running OS... which is down because Win7RC finally expired :( the 4870 isn't too bad though.

And I disagree with the OP, I'll be buying the new iPhone, upgrading from my 3G which I've been more than happy with.

who said i was talking to OP?
Matt Warman, Consumer Technology Editor.....you FAIL.

But this don't shoot the messenger garbage is lame. Don't send the message.

When Apple first launched the iPhone in 2007, it was leaps and bounds ahead of its nearest rivals. <snip>

Wrong.

The first gen iPhone was sub standard in terms of smartphones in the market at that time.

  • No 3G
  • 2MP camera
  • No video recording
  • No Apps (on day one)
  • No tethering

I had a Nokia N95 when the first iPhone came out which was leaps and bounds ahead of the 1st Gen iPhone

For completeness... N95

  • HSDPA 7mb connection
  • 5MP camera
  • 30fps video recording
  • Symbian Apps (granted, not that great)
  • USB tethering

Everyone!

HE IS RIGHT!!!!!!!

I'm not buying the next iPhone.

Instead of getting mad and defensive. Think about it!!!

Why did evil Steve block music videos on YouTube???? So we have to BUY them.

APPLE IS GREEDY!!!!!!! GO WITH GOOGLE!!!!!

This guy is a clown and seriously

I also had an N95 at that time. Your list is correct, even though you conveniently forgot to mention the touchscreen. Not a minor detail, as the iPhone is completely designed around it. So for completeness, the iPhone in 2007 had one feature that the N95 was sorely lacking:

  • User interface (touchscreen!) and OS that actually allowed normal users to use all the technology crammed into the phone

And that's why the iPhone had all the other manufacturers go back to the drawing boards. What they came up with is rather good in some cases (HTC in particular). Pity though that the big Nokia 'iPhone killer', the N97, was a total and utter failure - its design was an almost total rip-off of the iPhone 3G but the UI and OS still lacked the same key iPhone feature listed above.

You are correct. The main thing Steve was talking about was how there were these set number of keys below the screen on almost every smartphone at the time of the 2G release and that those keys did not change with a different application running.

2)[/B] It’s anti-technology: When the iPhone launched it was cutting edge – now as other manufacturers announce, for instance, that you can use their phones as shareable wifi hot spots, Apple says no. Not because of some spurious “user experience” argument, but because of economics. When will they learn that it’s customers – supply and demand – that should dictate feature availability?

[9) It charges for satnav: In an age when Nokia and Google Android provide completely free mapping and satnav facilities, the cheapest way you can turn your overpriced iPhone into a satnav is with a £19.99 app. Bargain.

These are the only two point I agree with. All the others are either wrong or just opinions.

The original iPhone was cutting edge? It didn't even have 3G despite 3G pretty much being standard at the time! Not only that, it didn't have GPS

My thoughts on the article:

1) The iPhone isn't any more expensive than any other top-tier phone (maybe it's a UK thing?)

2) Tethering is a carrier specific thing.

3) LOL. Enough with the "soon to be, next version, etc " flash talk. Just show me flash without suckage on a RELEASED competitors phone and we'll talk.

4) Multitasking? Missed any keynotes lately?

5) Batterylife will be short on a device you can't put down. Sorry.

6) UK taxpayer's money spent on iPhone App development?

Bloody Hell!!

(always wanted to say that :)

7) The included headphone's do suck. I'll give you that.

8) Not well designed? Compared to what?

9) You get charged for sat-nav in the UK? Bloody hell again!! (can that phrase be used like that?)

10) Mini-USB and a seperate HDMI port would be nice. I'll give you this point too.

Ok, that's a 2/10.

Sean

This list would actually be a reasonable critique of the 3GS; of the 4G (which has not even been released and which will undoubtedly resolve many of these complaints) it is not.

Of course.. the touch screen. I left that out by accident i guess.. I'd had touch screen phones before...i-mate Jam (HTC Magician) / HTC Wizard etc etc, so for me touch its self wasn't groundbreaking in any way.

Where you do pick up something I conveniently missed out is UI.

The first gen iPhone UI was, for me the only groundbreaking feature and something that reinvented touch in the mobile marketplace.

...and the d*mn thing won't run VISTA!

...but they told me if I just upgraded my graphics card i'd be okay!??

seriously though this thread as with 95% of the threads lately has been utterly silly. Most of us are adults, yet far too many are acting like kids, Kristen your omitted because you are a child... now, lets all get back to our lives and forget this thread ever happened. Oh and hold our breath until tuesday when god.. er I mean SJ somehow makes us all say ohhh and ahhhh at something not so magical...

Garbage FUD-spreading Article.

It is too ridiculous that I won't even attempt to argue with it.

Yeah, these statements are so off the wall, it's not even prudent to respond. I love it when people spread FUD that they read somewhere without even trying to be objective.

I do have one question. OP, have you ever used an iPhone?

Wrong.

And yes, we all know how well Nokia did with that phone. Priced about what a phone should be charged when not subsidized....and then nothing came good from it. Agreed it was an awesomely specced phone, but back then you never even considered processor speed. NOKIA did not have a good processor. The only thing I liked about their phones is the carl ziess lens with autofocus. and the GPS.

Iphone was the first phone to truly have software that seen the capabilities of the smartphone and PROPER UTILIZED IT. so like i said earlier, software is apart of technology now than ANY hardware.

and Iphone OS was leaps and bounds better......you can't argue with that.

Even to this day, you can even say it's still better. even though google has made quite the progress.
