1) When plugged into a stereo for playback, the volume bar disappears so that all control is given to the stereo.

2) Like iTunes for your Mac/PC, the App Store now asks "Did you mean" when searching. (I think this is new)

has anyone seen this? it showed up today..........

New thing I noticed: Whenever I listen or watch long podcasts, it would usually just have a dot indicating it's new and it would disappear as soon as I start playing, indicating that they're not new. Now there's a 'half-dot' indicating that I'm not finished with the podcast yet, and if you click it, you'll be returned to the last spot on that podcast! NEAT!

Service Messages(?) now are like texts

When you get service message(I thinks that what they're called) the either vibrate when in silent or use the text ringtone, that'll be annoying as I get them a lot :L 'You need at least 17p to browse the internet' from o2.
Also most of these 'new' 'hidden' fetaures aren't new, like with the auto correction, what ever you typed a lot apple would save it to like a dictionary then use it when you type something like it but made a mistake.
Also when on the landscape keyboard when typing the buttons highlighted are a lot bigger. I'm not sure if this has been posted but anyway when typing on a website zoomed in it moves the site a long for you so you can see everything your typing, I know there was something like this before but you still didn't get too see everything.
One more tiny thing is when pressing the shift button on the keyboard it highlights in a more white cloudy way and the caps lock key is like fogged out too. Oh and  the copy paste thing is getting annoying for me, oh well.

That's been there since at least 2.2.

After the update, when I turn on my iPhone it checks all email accounts and show me the number of new messages on the home screen. Not only on mobile me accounts - also on GMail and my company account. It only took 2 seconds after startup to do this. I was very happy to see that and thought if IMAP-IDLE is now activated on new emails - sort of push - but this only happens when you turn on the phone the first time.

Anybody else seeing this?

Note: I am using the very first iPhone from 2007.

I dont know if anyone saw this but now VPN icon is showing after the clock and not after the wireless icon:

By the way I don't see a "Never" option in Autolock. Maximum is 5 minutes...

In fact, the shake to undo isn't a hidden feature as it was announced in the Keynote back in March :)

When updating multiple apps, the apps waiting to be updated now have "Waiting" below them instead of just graying out with the open install space.

My mobileme is set to push and my gmail is set to fetch. On start up I have noticed the Mail app checks for new messages without going into the app itself for my two gmail accounts even though they are set to fetch manually.

I just noticed that when turing your iPhone upside down in Voice Memos, the app changes to your devices new position. Does not react into landscape positions, though.

i just said that right before you on the same page...OMG people dont read!!!

When Safari quits itself, crashes or otherwise fails, when you open the program back up it allows you to use the bck button. Hope that makes since, I would always go to a new page in a website and it would crash but then when I would open Safari I couldn't go back to any of the previous pages.... And yes, this copy, paste, select crap is VERY annoying, worst implementation of a feature on this phone so far!

Date & Time

I don't know if this is new, but the "automatically set date & time" button diappeared!

better control when streaming podcasts

Today I tried to download a podcast, but it was over 10 MB so I could not d/l over 3g. I started streaming to listen, by tapping on the title rather than downloading. In the past, this would open the file in Safari, which is OK, but if you switch out of the app, you lose the cached version, and have to download all over again to get your place back. Now, the podcast plays within the itunes app, so when you return, your place is held, along with the cached file. This makes streaming much more usable as you can save you place and get back to the podcast whenever you want.

I notice that if i download a podcast from itunes on the iphone, then i exit the app and then go to standby, the podcast is continue the downloading process. I dont know if that was working at the 2.2.1

If you hold down a link in Safari then you get the option to open it, open it in a new window or to copy the link. Quite handy!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not:

In Photos.app, if you're viewing a photo full screen, you can tap and hold on the photo to bring up the "Copy" popup just like a text message.

That's another issue I have with 3.0. How often do I want to copy an entire text message? Never. If I wanted to send the same message to someone else I would forward it, but now when I want to copy an address I have to copy the whole message, paste it to a notepad, then copy the address out of that. Also when I try to copy stuff from a web page, more often than not the box doesn't work correctly and I have to copy what I want in weird chunks.

A couple of tips for you then...

1.) When copying a text message: Copy the whole message by tapping and holding on the message, then just paste it into the text field below and edit it to what you need and re-copy.

2.) Zoom in on the part of the webpage you are copying and you'll notice that the selection changes to one word at a time and you can start dragging the markers around. The further you are zoomed out, the more text it selects at once.

By the way, I'm not trying to be an ass... just trying to help you out.
