1.) When copying a text message: Copy the whole message by tapping and holding on the message, then just paste it into the text field below and edit it to what you need and re-copy.

2.) Zoom in on the part of the webpage you are copying and you'll notice that the selection changes to one word at a time and you can start dragging the markers around. The further you are zoomed out, the more text it selects at once.

Thanks 🙂 That text message hint is very useful. However, the pages I was having an issue with copying on (I had discovered the very useful tip you gave already) was mobile Gmail, and you can't zoom on those pages.

That's great! Thanks for posting that. I have wished for this feature (open in new window) since I got my 3G. That will save tons of time when browsing forums like this for example. No need to hit back and reload the thread list all the time.


Also, not sure if the OP will see this post, but the link in the first thread won't work for people who have their posts-per-page set to something other than the default. I clicked it and it took me here, the last page, since the thread only has 18 pages with my forum settings. I'm still trying to find the real continuation since I don't know what the default post-per-page setting is. To fix it, instead of using a link by page number, you could try to link by the post number instead.
 
I only just noticed that in the iTunes app, you can now see the reviews (before you could only see the start rating and how many reviews there were).

Multi-Touch Feature in Landscape Stocks Chart

I may have missed someone else mentioning this, but if you move one finger along the landscape stocks chart, and orange line shows with the value of that part of the graph. Try using 2 fingers and 2 lines will show with values, plus it shows the value change between those 2 points.

Anyone else notice the extra RAM is VERY useful. For example, I can now open www.engadget.com, then open a second page with say, www.macrumors.com, and then go BACK to the first page (Engadget), and the page doesn't have to reload anymore like it did with my iPhone 3G!

Wow that sounds heaps like a 3.0 hidden feature - I am pretty sure I did not see extra ram in the feature list.
 
Birthdays... Works over MobileMe now!

Yes, I know that you could do it by computer Sync, but MobileMe did not work before. I found the instructions on Apple's site.

First goto you iCal and select your Birthdays Calendar (Right click to Publish)
it will tell you the address (ical.me.com/YOURMOBILEME/Birthdays.ics)

then on your iPhone:

Subscribing to Calendars
You can subscribe to calendars that use the CalDAV or iCalendar (.ics) formats. Many calendar-based services including Yahoo! and Google, and the Mac OS X iCal application support either format.

Subscribed calendars are read only. You can read events from subscribed calendars on iPhone, but can’t edit them or create new events. You also can’t accept invitations from CalDAV accounts.

Subscribe to a CalDAV or .ics calendar:
In Settings, choose “Mail, Contacts, Calendars,” then tap Add Account.

Choose Other, then choose either Add CalDAV Account or Add Subscribed Calendar.

Enter your account information, then tap Next to verify the account.

Tap Save.


Works with updates too! However as mentioned it does show a dot on any day with a birthday even if you have no other events scheduled. (no problem for me) 🙂
 
Has anyone noticed that webpages still continue to load when you open a new window? I think it also continues to load when you exit and go to the home menu.

Maybe this isn't new though.
 
Here's something that I think is new. Today, when I went to http://i.wund.com aka WeatherUnderground on my Iphone 3GS, it popped up a Location services dialog asking if it was ok for Safari to use my location(like Maps or any other app does when it wants to use the GPS) then the WeatherUnderground site popped up the same dialog asking if it was ok to use my current location. I accepted both dialogs and then the forecast and all the info for my location where I am now came up. I have to admit it was pretty cool! I've never seen Location services used from a webpage in Safari before. Has anyone seen this before with any other websites? I'm thinking it's a new feature in 3.0 as I haven't ever seen Safari do this before when I've used WeatherUnderground before. I don't think it's listed in this thread as a new feature.
 
Hey I don't know if this has already been posted but one new find that I like is similar to the previous software not correcting "fir" to "for". I just found while typing a text that "hell" doesn't get auto-corrected to "he'll" any more! This is great for me as I always want to say "hell"!!
 
How many entries in Recents?

Anybody know how many entries will be logged in the "Recents" list of the Phone app in 3.0? Seems like it was not enough before. I often would find myself needing to recall a specific activity from a couple weeks back, and would use the time of a call to figure out when it happened. But the history did not go back far enough.
 
Apologies if this has already been mentioned - I've tried to keep a fair eye on this thread but may have missed it!

You can now open Streaming MP3s in Safari (as in streaming radio), head back to the home screen and use other apps with the stream still playing - great for internet radio! You can even use the play/pause button on the locked screen!

The following is incorrect

• iPhone 2.2 would search your Exchange global addressbook, if you started typing a name into an email's To: field, but now you can search the global Address book directly from your Contacts app, and get telephone numbers too! (found by memesmith)

This is the correct statment

• Searching Exchange Global Addressbook in firmware 2 under contacts would return phone numbers but not type (mobile, home, etc). Type is now given.

"You can now share a contact" - I already found this and it was added to the list a while ago.


Another new feature/change:
Calendar - the week now starts on Monday, whereas before it would start on Sunday.

It only starts on Monday if you have your phone set up using a setting for a nation that has its calendars start on Monday. For the US, it starts on a Sunday.

Ah that sucks then.

I am from Australia, and previously the calendar week started on a Sunday, so I changed my iCal view to be the same. Now I have gotten used to that, it has put in the change so that it is now starting on Monday for me. Now I will have to change iCal back to starting on Monday and get used to that again... Ah well.
