I was afraid we'd see reduced battery life w/ the switch from A4 to A5.

The real question is what does a 33% decrease in max standby time mean in practice? I think we'll have to wait for the first reviews to come out before we know.

The only decrease was in standby, from an amazing 300 hours to a pretty damn good 200, why the uproar? They increased the talk time from 7 hours to 8 on 3G considering all the new stuff and background processes going on, focus on that:)

So the 4S has a whole hour more of talk time vs 100 hour less of standby. Talk time is more important IMO, unless you plan to go multiple days without charging.

Thanks for the positive outlook. :)

Yes, you get an hour longer to actually use the phone for what it was intended as opposed to less time to let it sit and gather dust. Not a bad trade off IMO

with real life use you'd never get 300 anyway.. I'm lucky to get 3 days max, generally 2 with a bit of juice left. If the 4S can still pull that off then I'd be satisfied.

Yeah and that brings us back to "what does it actually mean in practice?". We have to wonder if with 1/3rd less standby, those 3 days will become 2, or those 2 will become 1.3. Those are differences people would notice.

I have to say it is quite curious

100 less standby hrs does not mean that ONLY standby is decreased as some have suggested, just like 1 extra hour of talk time does not mean that ONLY talk time is increased

I have been contemplating whether an upgrade to the 4s from the 4 is worth it, but I can say with 100% certainty that is is not worth it to me if the battery life for normal use has decreased in any noticeable way

upgrading from the 3gs to the 4 was a huge improvement that allowed me to finally go the whole day without having to carry my charger everywhere and I am not going back to that

guess we have to wait for reviews and comparisons

I have been using the iOS 5 beta since it first came out, the battery life is worse with the beta and I am convinced the reason for this is iCloud. It does a lot of syncing in the background, there is noway that you will still get 300 hours of standby time once you upgrade to iOS 5. I think 300 hours on iPhone 4 is on iOS4 NOT iOS5, so to all those complaining about 4s having worse battery life it doesn't its just the price you pay for the wondering syncing that iCloud is doing in the background. It's a trade off guys! It's not iPhone 4 v iPhone 4s its iOS4 v iOS5:cool:

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Seriously, how is reduced standby time an upgrade? After delaying the release of the new iPhone, the 4S is disappointing.

I'd have gladly ponied up the money for that tapered design larger screen iPhone 5 that was rumored.

Now that Jobs is gone I can see Apple turning into just another company. Today's iPhone was just the beginning.

drama post is dramatic

The difference is probably iCloud. The 300h standby time was mesured with iOS 4 without iCloud. iCloud uses alot of background processing even when iPhone is not being used.

Why wouldn't they re-measure the iPhone 4 and 3GS w/ iOS 5 and iCloud? They are selling it with it.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but my phone is on standby a lot more than it is on 3g-voice (I average about 750 total minutes per month). Without getting too geeky about Standby to 3g-voice ratios, I am confident that I can get through the entire day easily with the 4S.

I can already see Siri making my life a lot easier. I've really enjoyed using the App in the past and can't wait to see how well I can integrate it into my daily routine.

I never judge a phone by its standby time, since your phone is almost never in standby. I'd rather have the measure of higher talk time and actual activity rather than seeing the standby time.

Does it receive emails or any other notifications while it's sitting there? If the answer is yes, then it's not in standby.

I never said that it doesn't GO into standby, I just said that, at least for me, it's rare that it stays in standby long enough to make a difference in battery life.

You very clearly have no idea what the word standby means.
