I stumbled across a used MacBook Pro 15 inch 2017 model for $1000. Has a 2.9, 512 hdd, and the 560 video card. I’m not really needing a lab top at the moment but will be with the next year. He just bought it in August 2018 so still under warranty and can purchase AppleCare. He is tossing in a bunch of usb-c cables as well. Good deal? Hold off? Will mostly be used for photo/video work. Then light use for school. Seems they are selling well over that on eBay.

Are you serious? Dude if you don’t buy it, I will.

Seems kind of cheap. Are you sure it's a legit deal? I'd do my homework on this computer before I fork over 1K. There could be something seriously wrong with this computer that the seller isn't disclosing. Maybe even stolen. I'm just saying, if the deal is too good to be true, maybe it is. CYA.

This seems suspicious. I would assume this is a scam.

Try. I’m pretty savvy with computers so not to worried about testing it out. Since it is still under warranty not gambling to much as I can add AppleCare before I even leave. He had it up for much higher but kept coming down. Now it’s at $1000 and seems like he is hurting to get some cash. Feel bad. Are the keyboard issues really that bad as I’m reading

This is one of those "if you can't hold it in your hand and test it out thoroughly before you buy, best to pass it up...." deals... ;)
Meeting him at 10-10:30am this morning at his work. Will check it out.

Cold boot the machine and see if comes up with some sort of lock corporate lock. If so, consider walking away. You don't want a stolen machine.

No AppleCare and you might be hurting, equally if people are in need of fast money deals are always abound. I'd want it to be 100% transferred as if anything untoward you could end up locked out of an expensive brick and Apple wont touch you without the original receipt.

I'd even go as far as offering an extra $100 for his/her time as once your locked out by iCloud frankly your ****ed without the right paperwork and that may never come...

I just spoke to apple and ran the SN it is legit and can purchase AppleCare. I’m going to completely log into my account before I hand him a penny.

Wise, I'd ask for the original receipt at the point of sale or before, as being locked out is a big issue. Most important is the Mac is under your account with Apple, then your golden. Good luck with the deal, hope it all works out :)

sounds like a legit deal, reminds me when i bought my 2016 15inch mbp with 3 year ac for 1400 when it was asking for 2k from other sellers. sometimes good deal just comes up and you have to snag it

You should also start up the computer holding the option key down to see if it allows you to pick a new startup disk or if it prompts you for a firmware password. This won't prevent you from buying a computer that's part of Apple's DEP program, where an organization buys a computer that will automatically configure itself if you reinstall the operating system. This cannot be removed.

Well turns out it is still eligible for AppleCare until July 26th 2019. And ended up offering him $800 even though I had well over $1000 in my pocket. He tossed in 3 USB-C dongles of all sorts. It is in pretty much mint condition, minor scratches nothing bad at all. The guy just ran into tough times and was waiting on his tax refund to come through to help him by. But his taxes were taking longer than expected so after getting multiple blown offs by buyers he decided to take the $800 :) Came with the original box and all the cables. He was extremely nice meet me at his work, and went over everything with me. Still in shock that Im typing on this for so cheap. The OS installation went flawlessly and it is all good to go under my Apple ID. Specs are 15 inch MacBook Pro 2017 model, 512gb hdd, 560 4GB Video Card Radeon Pro, 16gb ram, and a 2.9 GHz i7

I trade stocks and every once in a while, you get a market downturn and a chance to buy at a bargain. Sometimes a large player has to sell his good stocks because he can't sell his bad stocks. And sometimes someone just needs cash a lot more than their stuff.

I don't understand why he gave it away. I'd still be suspicious even after checking the SN. Maybe it hasn't been reported yet.

If it is legit, congrats.

Well if he was going to report it stolen he would of remained logged in. I immediately did a fresh install and added my Apple ID while on the phone with apple transferring everything to my name. Everyone gets in a pickle from time to time so not shocking during tax season.

LOL. $1k is unheard of for this particular model but you "And ended up offering him $800". Of course, according to your story, he took it. Sorry, mate. There's not any karma on this thread for you but you should try posting it on reddit. They've got a lot of stories *cough lies* that you're tossing about here.

No skin off me if you don't think people get in finaical trouble. It happens. The guy originally blew off my offer for another buyer. The other buyer was a no show. So I got the deal as he needed it to pay his bills. I didn't think he would take $800 either but when we originally spoke thats what I offered. He had a bad ad with a terrible description of the laptop. So I can see why most people just ignored it. Their loss my gain. Ive scored crazy good deals before and will continue to do so. Sorry you don't believe people get in money trouble must be awesome to have such a lavish lifestyle to never need to sacrifice items for necessities

Having cash on the table is a great motivator to close the sale. Congrats and enjoy your new system!!

Not this fishing tale. Either way, I felt compelled to call you out on it. Doesn't matter to me what reason you want to hook people on believing this wouldn't happen. Guy could have easily sold it for more, even with his "garbage ad". Seriously, your full of it and I'm out.

Haha yep totally could. And so could I now that it’s mine. But selling takes time especially when your in Alaska and trying to sell a highend labtop. Your not calling anyone out just making yourself look silly. Oh well hope you score someday might lighten you up a little.
