So, as the title states, my cat knocked my 13 inch macbook pro off a counter onto carpet covered concrete. The laptop was closed and landed screen down. When I picked it up and opened the computer a few pieces of glass fell out and I could see the cracks all throughout the glass. The power light remained on, however there was nothing on the screen.

I took the computer to my local apple repair shop, CityMac in Asheville, and was told that after diagnostic testing, only the lcd and glass need to be replaced. Originally they quoted me clost to $440 for parts and labor. I just recieved a call back saying they misquoted the price and it would be another $150 due to them not being able to trade the assembly with apple for a new one.

My question is, what is a reasonable price to pay a 3rd party repair place for this work? There is no damage to any of the hardware other than the lcd and the glass.

Thanks for all the help

how does a cat manage to push a laptop off a table while the lcd is closed? man your cat must be MASSIVE;

also visit ifixit.com and buy the parts yourself and fix it, save a few hundred $$$

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. When the Macbook is closed (even with the Macbook AIR) it's too heavy for a cat to push off a table.

Can you sell the cat to recoup some of the cost, maybe check with the local chinese restaurant? :D

Yeah I think we definitely need to see pics of this villainous cat.

=^..^=

My cat could have done it. Maybe not across a table top with lots of friction, but if it was just slightly off the edge, it would've been sat on and thus doomed.

Yeah. It happened to be on a magazine and a bit off center. I would have said the same thing about never putting the mbp on an unsteady surface but too late now. Anyway, you all think 600 is reasonable then?

not at all, if you search around you can find this replacement service for $300-$350 check ebay, lot of repair shops advertise their service on there. i almost had used one.

This is second time I come to this post to see the cat's picture. I can't wait anymore pleaaaase!

tsk tsk tsk :p

nor anything slick now that you mention it.

Wow! Expensive lesson. Mine fell of my bed and I was fortunate to just come away with a small dent near the outside corner of the screen.
