FaceTime for Mac: "Signing on..." and other issues

For some reason, I can't get FaceTime on my MacBook Pro running 10.6.4 to sign on.

I already have an Apple ID. I've been using FaceTime on my iP4 in this same wifi network for months.

Anyone else have this problem? I've seen a few comments scattered around the forum, so I figured I would make a thread to centralize the discussion.

Anyone had this problem but figured out how to fix it?
 
As you saw in the other thread, I had the same problem but was able to fix it. I can't give an explanation of why it fix it but I can tell you how...

I'm on an iMac and I was connected to the internet through an ethernet cable to my router/switch. I turned off the Ethernet (from Settings -> Network) and turned on Airport WiFi then connected to my neighbors unsecured WiFi.

Immediately I was able to sign in no problem and use FaceTime no problem, tested it with my iPhone 4. I figured somewhere with my router/switch was the problem.

However, I then turned Airport WiFi back off and turned the Ethernet back on and FaceTime still works. I've signed out, signed back in, quit the program, restarted...everything is still working. I don't know why it fixed it but it did it seems.

I got this idea because I read about someone else who tried it on two different computer (but same location) so I figured it has to be the internet connection, not the computers themselves.

So give that a try if you can sign on to a neighbors unsecured wifi network or if you have MyWi on your iPhone, you can do it that was as well.

Unfortunately, all of my paranoid neighbors have secured wifi networks.:p

I'll connect directly to my modem later and give that a try (I can't disconnect my router right now, my wife is using wifi for work).

Thanks for the suggestion...... I'll post back if it works.

If anyone else tries this with success, please report in it.
 
same problem

Yeah I can't login either, it just sits there waiting to "validate" me, I don't even get a response or error.

That's a different problem then what is being discussed here.

Sounds like you are already getting past the Signing in... part and are on the validation part. You should be getting an email that requires you to click a link and then you validate through your browser. Once you do that, it will communicate back to FaceTime on your Mac and should work.

I have set up three Macs.
In each case Apple sends out an email to the address you supply.
You then validate the email address by clicking on a link in the mail.
This takes you to a web-page where you re-enter your AppleID.

Once that's done - your validation becomes active.

Were you creating new Apple IDs, or did these Apple IDs already exist?
 
You will only get the email AFTER getting past the "Signing in..." screen. It will ask you to enter an email address that you want to use with FaceTime, this doesn't have to be the same email as the one you login with.

Mine is a gmail address being used as an Apple ID.

I've been checking my email, including my Spam, but nothing.

*grumble*
 
Im telling you, you have to connect to a different network. It will work.

Is your iPhone 4 jailbroken? If so, get MyWi (free trial) and test it out, I'm betting it will work.

I didn't get a validation email. It just let me use my gmail address for Facetime (with my MobileMe address for the AppleID no less), without question. I don't have any other Facetime-compatible devices either, so I hadn't already done that.

Setting up yet another Mac.

This is the exact procedure.
1. Install the software.
2. Run Facetime.
(very long icon bouncing period)
3. Factime wants to use keychain - > okay
4. Camera comes on.
5. Enter Apple ID

I am entering a family member MobileMe name. Not my iTunes or Main MobileMe account.
I *have* to use ME.COM or it gets rejected.

6. Click SIGN IN
Get the signing-in gear. Then..

7. Then I see "People will call using your email address. What address would you like to use"?

8. I then get a chance to change the email address. I prefer to use a different email address.

I then get: The Verifying gear.
"A confirmation email has been sent.. follow instructions"

9. Then I confirm the email. And this takes me past the verifying stage.

I can confirm that the problem seems to be related to certain network configurations. The only way I could sign-in was by tethering my Macbook to my iPhone. Once I'd signed-in via tethering, I disconnected and then had no problem using Facetime on my Macbook via WiFi.

BTW, before disconnecting from my iPhone, I made one tethered Facetime call and the quality over 3G was fine...
 
I had same issue... Try creating a new account (mac logon not apple id) and trying there. It worked on that one but not on the original one
 
It shows me under contacts but has my home phone rather than my iphone 4 number, which ive been trying to call to test. I even updated to my cell # in itunes but that didnt seem to work. Cant find a way to dial a number on there...guess since its still in beta.
 
Can you go into your Address Book app and add yourself in there and then dial that contact from FaceTime?

to call your iphone 4 from your mac make sure your iphone 4 number in your contacts has 00 (or whatever you need for international code) +country code. I got stuck, added the 00 351 for portugal followed by my cell number and it works.

Also had same signing in problems so disconnected modem and router and tethered my iphone, logged in and it works. then untethered and went back to normal adsl and wifi and it still works.

Yea that seems to be the universal fix at this point, it's so weird, I can't explain why it fixes it.
