cases for 11.6"???

to be specific, I'm wondering abot a type of case that can stay on the device while being used, like the speck shell etc (but I don't want plastic)
it just came out so obviously there aren't very many MBA specific choices at this time. give it a few weeks and we'll see a slew of nice cases.
frankly, i'm hoping for a paper and pen notebook holder with a sleeve for it. that would be uber for my needs.

I am not going to argue with you because it is your personal preference, but buying a MBA and then putting a case on it defeats the purpose of owning a MacBook Air.

Exactly what I was going to say. You don't buy a nice thin laptop to chuck some chunky case on it and ruin one of its main features: its thinness.
But then again, im one of those people that uses their iPhone and iPad naked... I just dont see why people ruin their devices aesthetics with massive cases. (and no, I dont have any scratches on my iDevices because I'm careful in the sense that I dont put my iPhone in the same pocket as my keys)
You might want to re-think this, I use my ipad and iphone naked too. But a case for the air means you can drop it in any bag with peace of mind.
Plus I think a very thin device makes an even more compelling argument for a case, in that it's thin enough and light enough so the case won't impact on it that much. Think about it, it'll make sense.
Btw, there's no comparison with the pro. You have to put 4-5 case to get there from the baby air, lol...
If you paid that much for an Air, wouldn't you be a little more careful with it? Even with a case, I would never put even my MBP in a normal school backpack. I would buy a black InCase sleeve and carry it around, in my hands, in that.
Knowing how careless I can be, and how hard I find it to be careful, I am afraid no, lol. Within a year I ll bump an macbook at least 10 times.
I just want a case. Like a sleeve. That way it is more protected. It provides a bit more protection against scratching and banging around. Some numb nuts kicks my bag in class I'm not as concerned about something being broken. Simple stuff that you can help protect it with a sleeve. It may make it a bit thicker but it will give me piece of mind and prevent a $1400 paperweight.
Nothing wrong with a school backpack. The sleeve would protect it from a good majority of issues. Toss it between a couple books/folders and you're golden. They aren't indestructible but they aren't going to break by looking at them either.
I'm after a sleeve for my new 11.6. I can't just chuck it in my bag without one as it would be scratched up in no time.
Tried a case from Comet this afternoon for 11.6 netbooks but its just a tiny bit to small.

I drop my iPad in my bag every day. I take my iPad to uni and put in my bag every single day of the year, just jamming it between books in my bag and its perfectly fine.
And no, in my mind that makes no sense at all. If its so thin, then a case could potentially make it twice as thick as it already is. Ew?
So why even start approaching the thickness of a MBP? Keep its design as Steve made it, and dont mess around with its beautiful aesthetics.
Ok, i have nothing against sleeves. Its just those freaking ugly incase things that people put on their laptops. Theyre like thick covers that bulk up the laptop all the time. You remove the laptop from the sleeve, but these things stay on. I sometimes use a sleeve for my MBP when I take it to uni (which basically never happens since I got my iPad), but I personally just chuck my iPad in my bag and it seems to be doing fine.
Agreed. Per my last post. I'm concerned about people kicking my bag or generally not giving a crap what might be in someone's bag. I do what I can to protect it, but sometimes a little extra is required or you end up with a paperweight... an iPad is an expensive paperweight... an Air is even more expensive.

I'm a fan on speck cases and incase hard shell cases. Yes it does seem that I bilked it up but the piece of mind is a nice feeling. I hate the feeling of having a scratch or dent after an accident and now must live with the war wound for ever.
That said, there currently isnt any yet. There are only 3 soft covers. Waiting...

i was wondering about the same thing when i placed my order with apple for the MBA 13.3". I searched apple.com US store for MBA 13.3" sleeves and it just gave me MBP 13.3" Sleeves.
So yea i guess we all gotta wait till major brands make MBA 2010 specific sleeves and cases

Well, that makes sense too, I am of the opinion that different (or even opposite) approaches can both be right, it's all a matter of perspective, and I can see merits to both perspectives here. Like I said I too use my ipad naked, and pretty much all macs/apple products I have so there you have it. But I am thinking of getting a case for this air for a change.
Wait for a wrapsol to be released. I have one on my 2010 MBP 15HiRes AG and it's perfect. That is what I plan to do with my new Air as well. No orange peel or gloss with the wrapsol skins either!
While getting ready to ring up my MBA, the Apple Store guy asked if I needed anything like a case. I asked him if they had anything for the new MBAs and he said no. So, I said I didn't want one.
I rarely take my MB out of my house. So, I don't need anything. I have a case I carried my 12" PB and 13" MB in. That thing has served me well. Only problem is this little 11" MBA will be swimming in that huge case.

There are 4 employees per square foot in an Apple store. At least one of them has to be a little clueless

Why is it everytime someone asks for a suggestion on buying a case someone attacks them for wanting to buy a case... what the hell, seriously... if YOU don't want a case that's fine, but there's ZERO accomplished to reply stating that he shouldn't put a case on it. HE ALREADY WANTS ONE, IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE TO RECOMMEND THEN SAY NOTHING.
Anyhow, I too want a sleve or something, maybe a neoprene slip-sleve... nothing something that stays on, more something that when I put it in my bag I don't have to worry about anything rubbing against it. Clearly the guy who said "be careful with it" isn't a traveller, because anyone who has ever gotten on an airplane knows TSA just tosses the bins around before and after the scanner, and the bins you put your crap in to go through the xray always have sand or grit in them. It funny how people say "why would you not be careful" yet they're the ones with grimy stuff cause they don't put cases on... lol...

Maybe the poster didn't really think of alternatives, or maybe they just don't know much about cases. Maybe my personal experiences with cases will help him make a more informed and proper decision.
