Maybe the poster didn't really think of alternatives, or maybe they just don't know much about cases. Maybe my personal experiences with cases will help him make a more informed and proper decision.

He wants a case. You asked why he doesn't just buy a MacBook Pro. That's the most unproductive response ever. My car needs new tires. Should I just buy a Jet Ski?

That's great.

You : "So you have a case for it?"

employee: "No".

You: "Well let me think then.......No , I'll pass"

hahahaha, you are right, the kicker here is the

So, I said I didn't want one.

I don't know if it was intentional, but it's just so damn funny, I especially like the "so,...".

what options are available? anyone get anything yet?

There's no case designed SPECIFICALLY for the unit yet, but if you go to BestBuy or Frys (if you have them locally) there are a bunch of options that'll work. I personally prefer neoprene sleeve... they provide protection from splashing and if you buy the right one they're extremely thin and great for protecting against bumps like going through the security at airports... You can get an iPad neoprene for now just to get you through a couple weeks till the ones come out for the MBA 11"... they can be had for a couple bux on ebay or amazon.

I have a sneaking suspicion you'll see a "custom" model for it very soon. So many models are so close to the case specs there will be opportunistic manufacturers who figure out which one is the close fit, and market it as "the one" :)

I went to Fry's yesterday and asked if they have a FW800 self-powered 1TB drive. She looked and said no. She then said "would you like to open a Fry's credit card account?"

What the hell is wrong with people? Pay attention when people are talking to you... and if you have trouble interacting, just take a half a second before speaking and ask yourself if the question you're asking, or the advice you're giving is appropriate for the situation. A little common sense goes a long way.

Well, that was just pure (and rude) sarcasm. I guess I should have used an irony point instead of a question mark.

How was that rude? You really need to look up and read "irony" in that wiki, because it's not ironic by any means.

He asked a question "WHICH case should I buy?" because he wants to protect his computer. Your reply of "you should buy a macbook pro" and "you should not use a case" both were unproductive. He wants a case. He wants his Macbook Air. He wants to protect his computer. He doesn't want your opinion on if cases should be used or he would have asked "do I want a case or no case?"

"If you are going to be putting a case on your MacBook Air, you might as well have bought a MacBook Pro instead…" is sarcasm. Or at least it's rude.

come on boys and gals, chill, you are getting worked up over nothing.

I apologize, it just drives me nuts when people ignore the fact that someone may want something different than them and they put them down for wanting something. Am I wrong to say it's a silly and unproductive response to tell someone if they want to protect their computer they may as well buy a different computer? Maybe I'm just clueless then.

Your joking right?

There will be a least 10 zillion. :D

Re-Read what I said. There's no way someone could come to market with a custom-designed spec case in a week... there will be bunches, but not NEXT WEEK. What my point was is that someone say inCase will realize one of their existing models fits well, so you'll see a new sticker on it saying it's "Designed for the Macbook Air 11"" sooner ...

You are on the offensive today, huh?

Yes sorry.

I'm kind of stupid and never read the entire post before I blurt something out.

But on a brighter note, I just bought a Tom Bihn Cache case, custom fitted for the Macbook Air 11" , $36 shipped. :)

I dont believe I suggested they ever get a different computer. I merely suggested using it naked or just getting a sleeve, just not a bulky hardcase.
Are people not allowed to make suggestions? Or have we come to the point where you just get angry and shout (yes, I could capitals as internet shouting) at them until they agree with you? I am all for a good debate, everyone can better themselves by debating. But getting angry about debating is pointless. Get impassioned, but not angry.

Aaaanyway. Back on topic. I say that there will be no cases/sleeves in stores for another couple of weeks. You will probably be able to find them online at the usual suspects (incase, switcheasy, speck etc) within the next few days. Just keep your MBA safe until then :p

Whatever.

Anyway, the question of this thread has been answered.
- You might have to wait a little while for a plastic case
- You an use an existing sleeve made for a smaller notebook, but the Air might be too loose in it

Then why are you responding to the original poster's question and not providing a link to what you ordered. Please provide a link for the OP and all's benefit.

No you are not wrong it can be grating, when I read you might as well buy a mbp it pissed me off a bit as well, but there's also the perspective that someone might think a case is something you can't do without so it might be helpful to point out to them that this isn't the, well... case. I guess you 've been tired with all the threads where someone asks a. and then he gets replies you should really be doing b. It can be grating like I said, but I just can't stop thinking of the exchange on the phone with the apple rep who suggested a case to sell out of the 0 ones they had available, so I am in a happy mood.

Because lots of people know how to search for something using Google

The case in question.

...when I read you might as well buy a mbp it pissed me off a bit as well...
It pissed me off when I just re-read it, and I was the one that said it. I guess I was in a bad mood earlier today.

Since you chose to not read the parts that you didn't absorb, I thought by chance maybe emphasizing certain words would bring clarity. ;-)

You wanted a link. A link to the product that was mentioned. I provided said link and was greeted with your wonderful post.
