Just look at that "New" logo

And while you are at it trying to figure out what is new have a read (if you can) of CEO Howard Schultz explaining the whole thing. I start cringing when people go way over the top describing this kind of thing as something radical, life changing, etc. Ok, the short version is "We got a new logo!"

They (whoever they are) didn't change a thing but take out the words and enlarge the inner image.

btw, Boobs on mermaids make everything better.

It's almost like they tried too hard. ...But, then fell flat on their face.

Nothing says trying to fight irrelevancy like a new brand identity. That post seems to preach about how redrawing the line art is something radical. It's not. This identity is pretty flat, and I'm not diggin' it.

I don't think I ever even actively realized that there was some sort of mermaid in the Starbucks logo. The mermaid alone certainly doesn't immediately cconnect with the brand in my head...the text around the image is important, I think. I don't even drink starbucks, though. Too many summers working in a gourmet cafe have left me largely uninterested in coffee, but with taste for excellence in brewing strong enough to make me avoid Starbucks when I do partake.

I like the first one the best, and it's not because she's topless. It had the most character. The last one looked like an icon - which worked well for all the means of showing it off (print, websites, yatta yatta.. some logos work better on different types of media), but the heavy block lettering also lent a certain type of personality to it. Now it's just too pasteurized looking.

It's not bad, but not much of a change; just a chop of a the old one.

If a mermaid has a scaly tail then clearly it's a fish, so it wouldn't have boobs. However, if it had boobs it would be a mammal and it's tail would be smooth, like that of a dolphin for example.

Either you have scales, or you have boobs. You can't have both.

never liked the logo, especially the original one, but it's recognizable and it works. it makes sense to drop the coffee part if they want to refocus on different areas, but i think in terms of evolution of the brand they should have just dropped 'coffee' kept 'starbucks'. the current one could have been a successive step.

Are we not supposed to call the company by name anymore, just point.

Where are we going for coffee, I dunno the mermaid place.
