I know some people mentioned this doesn’t have a laminated display, but where did they read that? I see no mention it’s not. It sounds like it’s the same display as the air

The iPad 10 is thicker, wider and taller too

But she’s right on this one. The Pro should of got this first since this is something many people would prefer (especially on iPad mini) not a budget iPad till later on

But in the meantime what annoys me is that Mac otakara was actually right in they’re rumors ( except for the new Pro having 4 pins when it still has three)

Apple's new iPad lineup is not only a total whiff, but makes no sense.

They need 2 iPads lines each having 2 size options:

Base iPad: A-15 chip, Touch ID, NO camera bump and a barely adequate rear camera, at-least 8MP FaceTime Camera in portrait-orientation, 4GB or 6GB RAM, edge-to-edge display with ProMotion and Apple Pencil 2 support and maybe no keyboard support (or only bluetooth keyboard support, no smart connector). Comes with either 64GB or 256GB storage. USB-C charging, MagSafe Charging and MagSafe Reverse Charging.
--> Sizes: 11-inch display size and 8-inch display size (mini)

Pro iPad: M2 Chip, Face ID, same camera as iPhone 14 Pro + LIDAR, 2 x 12MP FaceTime Cameras in both portrait AND landscape orientation, 8GB or 12GB RAM, edge-to-edge XDR Pro display with ProMotion and Apple Pencil 2 support along with Magic Keyboard options with trackpads built-in. Comes with either 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB storage. USB-C charging with Thunderbolt 4 support, MagSafe Charging and MagSafe Reverse Charging.
--> Sizes: 11-inch display size and 12.9-inch display size

The Base iPad is a tablet and meant to be used as such. It is not even trying to be a laptop replacement. Nor is it trying to let you take photos and videos and edit them so let it lie flat on the table for heaven's sake. It requires ProMotion display because of Apple Pencil 2 accuracy, but that tech is more than 5 years old for iPad (2017 iPad Pro had it).

The Pro iPad is for somebody who actually is using the iPad as a tool for audio/visual work. It has the keyboard options so it can do light duty as a fake laptop, but let's face it, non-pro people don't need that crap -- they should just get a MacBook.

And for heaven's sake, the Apple Pencil was a horrible design when introduced. Thankfully it was fixed with Apple Pencil 2. Why Apple Pencil 1 is still compatible with any new iPads some 7 or 8 years after it was introduced is ridiculous.

Hmm ok, it will be interesting to see some more official specs on this model to see if it actually got it or not. Plus hopefully they at least gave it 4gb of ram this time around.

For the first time on any iPad, the front-facing camera is now located along the landscape edge. Whether users are on a FaceTime call or recording a video for social media, they will always be looking right toward the camera.

I always find it amusing when Apple congratulates itself for implementing an incredibly obvious feature. "Wow, I can't believe it's a good thing to have the camera properly oriented for the way most people hold the device!"

Why was the Pencil1 a horrible design? It had a clever way of charging from the iPad or you could charge it normally with a Lightning cable. The Pencil 2 only works if you have a flat sided iPad.

When did we stop wanting long hardware support instead of early obsolescence?

I completely disagree. The Smart Keyboard totally transformed the way I used my iPad Pro 10.5". My wife's iPad 7th generation with Smart Keyboard pretty much functions identically. I could use an iPad 10th generation with keyboard as my primary iPad device, but I couldn't do that without a keyboard. (Pencil 1 not withstanding.)

I have Pencil 1. I absolutely despise it for all the reasons everyone has already said.

Clever how? It blocks the Lightning port (or USB-C port on this iPad), which you can use for other accessories and charging. The Pencil 2 gets this right.

Clever in that you don't need a cable and powerbrick, but are you saying that you couldn't survive without the port for 10 minutes? The Pencil2's solution is better but it required a flat-sided iPad.

Coming to iPad Pro 2023 as soon as Apple figures out the “best” way to move the camera and still maintain (or remove) the Apple Pencil wireless charging spot… I really didn‘t want to wait another year… Plus the new 10th gen keyboard redesign looks great!

Someone posted a picture of the specs from Apple on page 1 of this thread. It appears that it doesn‘t have a laminated display.

The length of the Apple Pencil 2 fits the short side of an iPad Pro 11, so why couldn’t they have just swapped the positions.

Normally I’d be in agreement but necessitating a dongle to use the Pencil kind of signifies obsolescence without really admitting it. I don’t know, just a hunch.

Because the sides are where people usually hold the iPad, and it would probably block the speakers a little. There was literally no reason for Apple not to move the camera since the iPad10 shows they can have it and the Pencil 2 mount together.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe she should work for Apple as a consultant. I mean they hired Angela Ahrendts who was less qualified to run the retail chain. Yeah she's a fangirl, but even she has a clue of what's a bad idea.

I trying to picture the room when it was suggested they take the 4th gen iPad Air and remove the gen 2 pencil compatibility & make an adapter (another chunk of plastic from the great bragging greenies) for the Lightning ended gen 1 pencil?? And nobody spoke up to say what a pointless & consumer consumer hostile move that is.

Moving the camera doesn't make it any more "centered", it just changes which axis it's centered on. With the old placement, when your iPad was rotated to landscape orientation then the camera would be centered *vertically*. Now in that orientation it's centered horizontally. Either way, the person on the other end isn't going to see you looking directly at the camera unless there's software going on to "fix" your eyes. Which Apple does... So tell me again, why is the placement of the camera that big of a deal?

I needed a dongle to plug 30-pin accessories into a Lighting iPad; I need a dongle to plug USB-A cables into a USB-C port; and I need an adapter to plug Lighting accessories into a USB-C iPad.
