Can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe she should work for Apple as a consultant. I mean they hired Angela Ahrendts who was less qualified to run the retail chain. Yeah she's a fangirl, but even she has a clue of what's a bad idea.

I trying to picture the room when it was suggested they take the 4th gen iPad Air and remove the gen 2 pencil compatibility & make an adapter (another chunk of plastic from the great bragging greenies) for the Lightning ended gen 1 pencil?? And nobody spoke up to say what a pointless & consumer consumer hostile move that is.

I think we can remember Angela as one of the worst Apple executives ever.
Worse than John Sculley but maybe somewhat better than Michael Spindler.

Any pencil updates need to start and end with serviceable battery.

Just mix the 2 editions, Apple pencil 2 (magnetic charging) with physical port at the end and a serviceably battery. Add some other feature in there if you like but that's all I need.

Apple probably didn't have an event this month because they couldn't come up with a way to explain their unfathomable product decisions.

Landscape camera on the entry-level but not the Pro? 🤷🏼‍♂️
Function keys for the entry-level but not the Pro? 🤷🏼‍♂️
USB-C iPad with a Lightning Apple Pencil? 🤷🏼‍♂️
Still no miniLED on the 11" Pro? 🤷🏼‍♂️
Good colors for the entry-level iPad but pretty much nothing else? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Currently I think the new 10th gen iPad is a great new device, aside from the price and the recycling of Pencil 1.

Sure. The Pencil 2 being better doesn't mean the Pencil 1 didn't have a clever charging design.
I don't find it clever. I find it incredibly awkward in real-world usage. And it makes you feel like it's going to break off if anyone bumps it.

It only takes like 10 minutes to charge it, put it on your desk and top it off in the morning while you get your cup of coffee.

But I agree that selling a Lightning Pencil to use with your USB-C iPad is silly.

Let me guess, the only major update to the iPad Pro with M3 will be a landscape camera. Why is Apple creating all these inconsistencies across the product line? Some have Face ID, some don't, some have a traditional Touch ID, some have it in the power button.
The answer is: money.

It seems supply-chain and manufacturing efficiencies (read: profits) are tipping Apple's priority scales further and further from the side of innovation and customer satisfaction.

They used to have a nice balance. There have been an increasing number of instances where the sacrifices in the name of profits are hard to ignore.

As soon as I saw they didn’t mention landscape camera on iPad Pro. Nope, not upgrading. Like why? Why put it on regular iPad and not pro?

I mean nice but FFS everyone except Apple has known for a decade that portrait mode is NOT the default orientation for iPads (they probably knew it, because they have the data on user orientation, but refused to accept it).

I’m thinking the Apple Pencil magnet charging has something to do with the Pro not receiving a landscape camera yet.

The new, 10th-generation iPad is the first-ever iPad model to feature a landscape front-facing camera orientation.

As expected according to rumors, the new iPad's front-facing camera is now located in the middle of the right bezel of the device. This means that when held in landscape or connected to accessories like the Magic Keyboard Folio, the camera is directly in the center of a user's eyeline. From Apple's press release:The 10th-generation iPad's front-facing camera is otherwise identical to that of the ninth-generation iPad, which remains available from Apple, with the exception of support for Smart HDR 3. The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models continue to feature a portrait front-facing camera.

My only concern with this is that this device doesn't support Apple Pencil Gen 2 which likely means they couldn't fit charger and camera in that same spot... or they just didn't want to.

Normally I’d be in agreement but necessitating a dongle to use the Pencil kind of signifies obsolescence without really admitting it. I don’t know, just a hunch.
The 1st generation pencil always has had a dongle. There was a male lightning port if you wanted to charge by having it hanging out of your iPad, or an adapter to give it a female port so you could charge with a lightning-cabled charger.

The second generation eliminated the port and the dongle by going magnetic wireless charging.

Yeah, so no dongle. Not the same thing, sorry.

Angela Ahrendts who was less qualified to run the retail chain

I think we can remember Angela as one of the worst Apple executives ever.

Angela Ahrendts' tenure at Apple could be viewed as unsuccessful, depending on one's viewpoint, but she was certainly one of the most qualified people Apple could have hired to run Apple's retail presence. She has extensive luxury retailing and fashion industry experience. If anything, the Apple Store's "failure" during her time could be laid at the feet of Jony Ive, whose vision was to transform Apple from a tech company to a high-end lifestyle brand. And anybody who follows Apple knows Angela, not Sir Jony, would be the one to be pushed out in any major fight during that period.

The iPad Pro update seems like a placeholder update until next year or 2024, when it gets a landscape camera too.
2024 is when iPad Pro is supposedly getting OLED displays. So that's the year when the next major change for iPad Pro will most likely happen.

I don't find it clever. I find it incredibly awkward in real-world usage.
Understanding that life has its own schedule, I'd also ensure that any time I need to use my devices are preceded by a decent charge cycle ahead of said needed use.
