In contrast, my iPad Pro 9.7" seems ok on 11.4 so far. I'll give the SE another day or so, but it was a bit surprising to see the remaining 60-70% completely drained over night. Also don't know what the "full" drain would have been had it been fully charged.

My suspicion is the instant 11.4.1 beta same day release.
iPad Pro thus far I see no changes but it generally holds charge for me for days on with heavy use. SE still draining fast since noon charge, down to 60% ---- have done network resets etc. 8Plus coming down quicker than usual but not like SE, maybe because of the battery size of the plus.
Ill give it a few more days, and most likely downgrade on SE...but then maybe we will see a 11.4.1 release the following week. Could may very well be new services not running right or other...

The battery is doing better, as is the charging. I think Banglazed is correct - it takes a bit to re-index.
My SE on 11.4 has drained 60+% two nights in a row. After the first night the phone was completely dead (down from 60-70%). This morning it's left with 30% (down from 90% since last night). Battery health reports 94% and no odd battery drain for user apps. The excessive drain is night time only so far.
Even if "it's due to indexing" etc etc were true it's not even remotely acceptable for the only direct means of contact some of us have. If an update does this it's malfunctioning.

Happened again last night (90% -> 30% this time, see the other thread). It's better during day time and more in line what I usually get for a few days after a major update. Maybe it's sensing not moving for a long time and ramps up some systems related task. My iPad is still fine.

Under Battery Usage, tap on the clock icon at the right which will show on screen and background time. This will give you some idea of which app is consuming battery in background. When you lock your phone, just make sure you lock it when it shows home screen. If you had an app running on the screen while locking the device, it will continue to run. Sometimes, app might be stuck and continue to use battery in background. Before you sleep, you may try to clear all apps from the app switcher and check in the morning.

It's the worst operating system I have used in decades including Windows Vista. iOS 12 will fix it though as even Apple themselves would like to forget about it existing.
Thanks for the tip, but I've already checked the app specific battery drain (implied by my vague "no odd battery drain for user apps"). Anyway, I'll double-check that no apps are running/active when I go to bed in case some specific app does not agree with 11.4 (or if it's an app related bug that was coincidentally introduced at the same time 11.4 went live).
I agree with you that it is unacceptable. Even more, Apple should have warned us of this happening. Give it time, your battery will be even stronger after the index.

I know, I never experience this with any other update. Give it time - it will resolve.
My iPad mini 4 went from 96% to 30% with under 2 hours of "use" (mostly Safari) and 12 hours of "stand-by".
In my case, two days after update to 11.4 and initial problems with battery draining it looks like the problem solves itself. During last night the battery dropped only 4%.

Last night I charged my phone again prior to going to bed. For whatever reason, things seem to be back to normal... for now. Only dropped 2% between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM. Only thing I did was erase the phone yesterday afternoon and reinstall all my apps, accounts and settings. Same thing I did the day prior since I setup the phone as new but for some reason I didn't have the problem last night. So weird.
Haha. iOS11 is too funny. Creating more and more issues every release. I use a podcast app in the am to workout with, used to drain my phone down to like 76% in a few hours...on my way to work I got a low battery message, 20%!

I went from 100 at midnight to 34% at 7am. So still happening. Indexing is not part of this.
So i ran the test again, 100% midnight, and 32% at 7am. gotta wait for 11.4.1. main 8plus has been normal as, cant tell really.

I've also experienced related odd behavior on my iPhone X. Specifically, the phone runs VERY warm -- in particular when wirelessly charging with a charger I've had for several months -- and the battery struggles to recharge completely, even with my Apple 29W charger and Apple USB-C to Lightning cable. Also, when it is operating at high temperatures, both the stock Mail and Messages apps become very flaky (usually necessitate a kill).
Furthermore, I have noticed that my Apple Watch Series 3 has drained much more quickly since it's update a couple days back. Even with long GPS usage, audio streaming etc, I've almost never gotten into the battery red zone with the series 3 -- yet I have done so two days in a row now.
I've talked to Apple Care who ran remote diagnostics on the phone with nothing conclusive. I have done multiple hard resets. They are proposing a restore, which is always the dreaded default suggestion...
Here's my hypothesis: could this be iMessages in the cloud doing heavy syncing work of years of messages? I saw some note on the bottom of the screen that syncing occurs when on Wifi and charging. And does the Apple Watch now also use iMessages in the Cloud?
Anyone have any opinions or advice?
