AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac or Apple Display
AppleCare Protection Plan

As to whether it's worth it or not, that's a matter of opinion. You'll find lots of opinions on both sides. If you want more information, here are just a few of many threads on this topic, found by searching the forum with Google:

Is Applecare worth it if I don't even use the macbook pro to its full potential?
Applecare - Worth it?
AppleCare worth every penny
is applecare worth the money?
Mac Pro and AppleCare, worth it?
Is AppleCare Plan worth it?

Always buy Apple Care. As already said, being careful will not prevent an internal hardware failure.

I've never bothered with Applecare because extended warranties are, and have always been, a rip off.

OP, if you bought your computer with a credit card, you might get free extended warranty services through the card, but you'll have to check on the requirements as each card is different.

Depends on a lot-

Who did you buy it from? (reliable company or not?)
What country? (US, EU, Australia...?)
Can you get a discount?
Another 3rd part warranty available?

Without more info the question cannot be answered!

I feel that long term warranties are like dental insurance. It's once you don't buy it that you get your first cavity.

That being said: AppleCare every time.

I agree most warranties are a rip off and when things break, I usually have upgraded or moved on by then. But my MBP is something I use everyday and judging from my past experience, AppleCare is actually something I have used on a number of occasions whether it's to replace a broken phone, part defect or accidents.

Get it at the .edu price and it's totally worth it.

Probabilities don't bear out that feeling.

Just about the only thing that's guaranteed with Applecare is that Apple will make more than 50 cents on each dollar you spend for it.

What's really worth it is the free warranty I get through my credit card. Not only does it include a 1-year extension over the standard warranty, it includes things like theft or accident for a good number of days post-purchase. All of it for free.

Well due to AppleCare, I went from an Early 08" MBP to a 2.2 Quad i7. Not a rip off. Some people get lucky and not need it, others not so lucky. It is a game of russian roulette.

sorry, i knew about MRoogle, but i just wanted to see what ya' thought bout it. i mean i can buy it right now if i wanted to but eh.. its like 60% of me wants to get it but then the other 40% says save the money for summer school. and i dont plan on selling this macbook since i hardly play games anymore and if i do, i play the ps3.

You can wait a few months to buy it, it just has to be purchased within the first year. Make sure you use the student discount as well. It will be 250 instead of 350.

You've got an entire year to a) save up the money and b) make a decision.. there is no rush.

As long as you purchase before the standard 1 year warranty expires, you're good.

Russian Roulette generally isn't a reason to do...just about anything. ;)

I said the exact same thing right above your post lol.

If you plan on keeping the computer for 2 to three years I think absolutely worth it.

If you plan to sell the old and buy the new every 12 to 18 months better to use what you woould pay in AC to cover most of the cost instead......

i wish, my 1 year is due next month. checked the apple website it says 1 year is up april 17th =[

If nothing else buy it for the resale value

You can keep it for another year then take it to the apple store, let them know youre getting it ready to sell so you can buy a new one from them. They will replace what ever they can.. few dead pixels = new screen

Now youre selling a machine with zero defects and a full 1 year transferable warranty.

I would never buy a machine not covered by applecare (<1yr old)

hm.. alright i'll get it then. going to pick it up later today at my university since applestore is an hour drive and its snowing outside in nebraska... SMH

damn it was closed today, but i checked their site, its only $183... thought it was $250 :D

thanks for your opinions everyone :)
