12+16pin to M.2 SSD adapter

Has anyone been succesful using one of these 12+16 to M.2 adapters in a MacBook Air A1466? The relevant threads I find are quite outdated and lacks user experiences.

1. What's your experience regarding stability and speed?
2. What dimension SSD M.2 SSD can you use with these? 80mm or 120mm?
