I ordered a 12.9" for delivery in late June. I'm hoping something cool gets announced at WWDC for the iPad. If nothing cool is announced, I'm going to cancel the order and stick with my 2018. I fully anticipate cancelling the order. If something cool is announced, I want an order in. By WWDC, they might be back ordered to August or something.

Chip shortages are likely to constrain the production of computers, cars, and everything else with a lot of electronics. Ford has large storage yards with partially completed vehicles awaiting components.

If it was a chip issue, all of the M1 computers would also have similar delays. But because they don’t, this seems to point to issues with having enough of the display. It’s the only thing different from every other computer and iPad.

I’m not downplaying the chip shortage, not at all. That is impacting my business as well. I’m just saying that in this particular case, the iPad delays are more likely due to the screen than they are the chip.

Actually, this is false. I was checking some Apple Stores, and in some countries they are selling in a week. So it depends on where you live.

I'm not sure if Apple allows you to buy it online from a foreign Apple Store, but some countries have plenty of stock available.

All models in the UK currently shipping 21st June - 2nd July, not too bad considering… 6-8 week wait

Can anyone detail how the pre order/shipping process works?

do they already have products in the first batch stateside and are waiting to ship until the week of the 21st?

A week? That’s not possible. The earliest they ship is May 21. You may be looking at older models in countries where the new model is not yet available. do you have an example?

Not sure that it is not all interrelated. After all, they are logic and processor chips in displays. And if any part of the display package cannot be completed they cannot ship.

Nobody that ordered wants sub par display. Don’t won’t ‘almost perfect displays’ or ‘close enough’ released to catch up.

It is actually. It is the 12.9 iPad Pro with XDR display that is shipping within a week according to the Apple website in certain countries. So it is not the 2020 model.

But I doubt they will ship to outside their country anyway, so I cannot make use of it.

I was lucky enough to get my order in with a date range of May 21-28. However, it kept popping out of the cart when I went to purchase, so I switched from Space Gray to Silver. After I got that order in, the Space Gray was shown as being available

The power of marketing. He feels lucky. Lol.

Apple always under promises and over delivers when it comes to shipping times. You’re likely to get these things two weeks earlier than quoted. Pandemic related supply issues could change that but I still think they factor in that strategy to make people happy in the end.

I want one, but I am going to wait until WWDC to see if this is something I have. With iPadOS in its current form, I have no use (iPad Pro is my primary computer) for any speed/screen improvements. Everything works perfectly today so I don't feel the need to invest. If there are major advances to the OS, I will take a look then. A lot of money flying for these without much of a difference from where we are today.

Yes this would be funny (woulds be), but for the st, which cleary shows it as a typo. I'm sorry. :D

Don't need to be sorry that you don't see the humor. You'll eventually come around. The typo could be that he put st instead of nd. Or maybe he meant 21st? Who knows. Either way I think it's funny. Just felt like jerking his chain a bit since he was bragging and making it sound like he was the only person who mattered in the universe 😉

would love to have it but for that price I'll get the next mbp. it makes just more sense 😂

Can you give an example then please? Which country or a direct link to the store? Because Apple themselves said it doesn’t ship until the 21st.

So in other words... there's going to be a sizable group of us trying to beat out the delivery wait by refreshing Apple's in-store pickup stock every morning starting May 21st?

Mine could arrive on the 21st, live in USA. No shipping date estimate though, do you have one?
