Apple plans to discontinue the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED backlighting in 2024, according to a recent report from Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, suggesting that the tablet will not remain in the lineup for a reduced price following the launch of the rumored 13-inch iPad Pro with an OLED display next year.

TrendForce:
The shipment volume for Mini LED notebooks is estimated to decrease by approximately 39% YoY. Meanwhile, with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro expected to be discontinued in 2024, the shipment volume of Mini LED tablets is expected to decrease by about 15.6% YoY, making these two the only applications expected to decline.
In December 2022, oft-accurate display industry analyst Ross Young was first to report that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro would be succeeded by a slightly larger 13-inch model with an OLED display. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays, an M3 chip, and an aluminum Magic Keyboard to launch next year.

OLED display technology would allow for the next iPad Pro models to offer increased brightness, higher contrast ratio, greater color accuracy, and lower power consumption compared to the existing models with LCD panels. Young said Apple would be using very thin hybrid OLED displays with a combination of flexible and rigid materials, which could allow for the next iPad Pro models to have a slightly thinner design.

iPad Pro models released since 2017 support ProMotion, allowing for a variable refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz. The switch to OLED would likely allow for the refresh rate to drop down even further to 10Hz or lower to save battery life. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models can reach as low as 1Hz while in always-on display mode.

Apple is also expected to update the iPad Air, iPad mini, and entry-level iPad in 2024, but none of those models are expected to switch to OLED next year.

May be they will have the display with new blue PHOLED. That is going to extend the life for OLED displays even more. Even as things stand unless there is lots of static content that is always on, burn in is not that much of an issue.

We need a revamped OS. M50, 80", Retina OLED it does not matter.
I’ll do one bigger 2000” world wide iPad

You can convert it into an aircraft at the touch of a button.

When it needs servicing it flys off, comes back within an hour fixed. Apple Care Plane Plus

I find myself using my very underpowered and very low storage (only 32GB! :() iPad quite a bit nowadays but it is still defintely useful. I bought it in 2020 and I don’t know why I went with the cheapest crappiest one I could at the time. This is the first Apple iOS device I’ve had where it’s low specs is a constant issue.

With that said, I am more than happy to pay up to $1300 for the 13’ iPad Pro, but beyond that, no way. That definitely will price a lot of people out as well, myself included but I got a feeling Apple kind of wants to price people out especially if the 3NM is low yield, the screen is slightly bigger, and it is OLED.

We need a bit of review of iPad OS and although not having Mac OS running on it, I would rather see the pro getting closer to Mac OS than to iOS.

No matter what Apple puts in the new iPad the M2 that I have is underutilized…
You can redesign the HW but this machine could get more OS love.
Again - not asking for Mac OS but it’s too close to iOS imho.
Of course - easy to ask - harder to make.

Hopefully. Just waiting for Apple exchanging my M1 12.9 1TB for the second time with a screen fault after a Genius appointment today

I’ve had a few oled apple devices now and never had an issue with burn in. None that was apparent in normal usage anyhow.

I don't think we're likely to see burn-in on an iPad or an iPhone, but on a Mac it is possible with the taskbar and the dock almost always remaining static, something which is not as much of an issue on an iPad/iPhone.

The time and notifications on iPhone are mostly static too.. sometimes there’s color inversion

But for the most part they are static and ever present
