Outdoors, HDR content, etc.
Except its 1600 only in small part of the screen peak brightness when viewing HDR content, kind of pointless regarding your arguments.
Regular outdoor use was, what, afaik up to 600 nits max? Nothing future iPads with oled couldnt achieve.
Id take future oled instead of forever blooming miniLED and dead zones around screens perimeter.

I don't see why this is valid, because e.g. on MBP you can unlock fullscreen 1600 nits and use it like this. I don't think miniLED tech is different on iPad.

This is incorrect. The MBP can unlock full screen 1000 nits on supported content. Highlights only for 1600. Majority of the time, the screen will top out at 500 nits. Please do research on this.

Aaaand? You have cheap 1000 nits OLED screens to showcase?

There's no OLED of this size able to do 1000/1600.

You are running in circles just to not admit your initial statement was wrong and MiniLED has some advantages over OLED.

This is one of the reasons I’ve held up updating my 2020 iPad Pro to either the M1 or M2 versions. As nice as they are, I knew the mini-LED screens were merely a stopgap until OLED was ready. The 12.9” iPad Pro is insanely expensive (1TB 5G 16GB RAM) so buying one means I’m committed to it for years and I didn’t want to drop that kind of money when I knew the screen tech (the most important part of an iPad) was going to be behind the curve when the OLED models were introduced.

I’ve also seen rumors that there might be an even larger iPad on the horizon. Whether that one is for me remains to be seen but even the 12.9” OLED will be amazing.

I’d like to see them discontinue every current iPad and come back with a new lineup that makes sense and doesn’t feel like such a carefully calculated ladder to get people to spend more.

An OLED iPad might get me to trade in this 2020(?) iPad Pro I was given. In-store trade-in of course, not falling for that one again.

I hope the software is better by then. The display on this 14" MBP is better than that iPad's display, but it was better than the display on the 13" MacBook Air. I would like to once again see an iPad Pro with an incredible display, since that is its defining feature. But then of course I'll start glaring at this MBP and wondering what comes with the M4 series...

Of course the other problem is that for the price of that iPad Pro I could buy a really, really nice monitor or video card for an upcoming PC gaming build...

Seriously, OLED is not really great compared to mini-LED especially for professional uses. Why do they use it for since they can't even deal with burn-in issue?
Because new dual OLED panel technologies are coming into the marketplace soon

You mean Apple plans to update the iPad Pro.
The title of the article is literally clickbait, as it stops just short of explaining the actual situation purely so the headline can generate rage and shock.

And yes, I know I fell for it, and I clicked on the article and commented about it. But that doesn't make clickbait okay. Journalistic integrity is close to extinction, and it is ruining honesty and decency for the rest of us.

We need a bit of review of iPad OS and although not having Mac OS running on it, I would rather see the pro getting closer to Mac OS than to iOS.

No matter what Apple puts in the new iPad the M2 that I have is underutilized…
You can redesign the HW but this machine could get more OS love.
Again - not asking for Mac OS but it’s too close to iOS imho.
Of course - easy to ask - harder to make.

I wouldn't want a Mac that runs iPadOS, but I do like that iPadOS is closer to iOS than macOS, if only because a lot of the features that are steadily becoming more consistent with each update, seem to be a lot more at-home on a mobile platform than a desktop platform, such as system-level notifications or granular location services settings. These features, to me at least, seem more "natural" on iOS or iPadOS than macOS or even Windows.

I see nothing wrong with the headline. The body of the article did a good job of backing it up. I see no issue with decency there.

I find trashing headlines and calling them clickbait when they aren't to be rather indecent however.

Would Oled be better than mini led? In terms of picture quality I mean? Or is mini led better overall?

I would love an OLED iPad… but I use iMovie where you can’t turn off the screen while the project is rendering otherwise it will stop, so that means the increasing chances of burn in. iPadOS needs a “clamshell” mode.
