Maybe you didn't realize that you can connect an external monitor to the MBA? FWIW, I have the 11" model. Previously had the 13" MBA but the 11 gives me a better machine for travel that is still more than powerful enough for my use.

Whatever, everyone needs to make their own decisions about what kind of computer(s) they need. But statements like "a MBA can't be your primary computer" just make you look foolish. Plenty of people use them as primary computers. If it doesn't meet your needs, that's fine. Just don't assume that everyone else is the same.

I am not foolish because you can't admit the truth. A 11" MBA can't be better for home purposes only than an iMac

----------

Like i said a Macbook is ideal for those who travels a lot, but an iMac is better for home or at work

----------

Like you said you connect a external monitor to your MBA, i wonder why you don't have a 11" MBA and instead of the external monitor an iMac ?!

Such sensitivity - I merely stated a fact, which is that if eight ounces makes a significant difference in how easy a laptop is to carry, the person would be better served by improving their physical condition. If someone chose to take it as an insult, they should perhaps seek help.

Oh, and a 17% reduction in weight is statistically meaningless, but I don't expect you'll understand that.

Please don't come to this thread and judge people based on whether or not they are working out enough to deserve carrying a macbook. This line of reasoning is arrogant and facetious.

I'm not.

I'm pretty excited about this machine. I really like the 13" Air but was really, really close to going with an 11". It's just a tad too small for me when working on it solo though.

I wonder if this machine will exist with the others or if the entire Air line is about to become one size.

My first Mac laptop was a 12" G4 PowerBook—a machine I loved the profile of.

If it's got a Retina display, I'm pretty sure I'll be trading up when this machine is released.

Despite the fact that 17% is FAR from meaningless, what happens when you change something by 17% for five years in a row? Technology doesn't just shrink overnight.

OK, I agree. An iMac and a MBA would be better.

And a Mercedes and a Volkswagen would also be better.

A home in the country and an apartment in the city would be nice too.

And a wife and a young girlfriend would be great….

Oh well, one out of four ain't bad. :D

Ability to upgrade RAM to 12 or 16 GB would indeed be nice, especially since the Retina display will be pushing more pixels.

I still think this is the new iPad Air, and not a MacBook. It will be the hybrid that Yosemite is made for. 12" will be great for so many apps. 256gb, retina, new dark color, primarily iOS but with many "hand-off" optimizations. The one thing the MS surface did right was make several cool artistic and musical custom keyboard alternatives. Film, music, graphic arts industries could all benefit from this.

I really hope that you're right and it's the new iPad Pro or whatever they call it and they leave the Air lineup alone. I currently like the Air lineup of 11 and 13 with Intel chips. Do not think ARM is anywhere close to powerful enough to handle a decent-performing laptop yet. Maybe in a few years but not now. All the current ARM laptops are terribly slow (most of them are Chromebooks).

The rumors are clearly for a new MacBook and not for the extension of the iPad line. There are a few threads that have looked at the ARM option, I think that it might a real possibility. And, no, it won't be underpowered.

What? If Apple makes any traditional laptop touch screen, I'll stop believing they know what they're doing. Touch screen laptops and even desktops in their current iteration make little to no sense from a user experience point of view.

When you have to move your hands from the x plane in front of you (keyboard) to the y plane (screen), it's not a comfortable position to hold your arm at as your arm and hand are unsupported. Just the movement required itself slows productivity in working, as you have to stop typing and raise your hand or hands to go to the screen to do some move that could have been accomplished faster with a gesture based trackpad, as Apple has been offering for years.

Beyond that, who in the right minds wants fingerprints all over their laptop or desktop screen? I get it that with a phone or tablet, it's easy enough to wipe clean as needed, but when you go bigger in laptop or desktop form, the ability to quickly clean becomes more problematic. I hate it when my kids point to something on their laptop screen, touching the screen and leaving fingerprints everywhere. There just is not a good reason to interact with any computer this way.

Except I don't think its a traditional laptop. It'll be an ios device, a new category of tablets.

I think it will be a 12'' with retina screen, to differentiate it from the current MBA. With the 11 & 13 MBA being phased out in 2-3 years time, like the old classic MBP.

Although this might to some sales cannibalization of the current 13'' rMBPs.

The width & depth of this 12'' could be similar or less than the current 13'' rMBP to ensure a smaller footprint overall.

From Apple's spec:
13'' MBA
Width: 32.5 cm (12.8 inches)
Depth: 22.7 cm (8.94 inches)

13'' rMBP
Width: 31.4 cm (12.35 inches)
Depth: 21.9 cm (8.62 inches)

Looking forward to Apple's release of this laptop. Probably won't buy it since it will be the first version and first versions usually have minor defects that will be fixed by the next update.
