do you guys realize thats faster than alot of rMBP's speeds that have the sandisk ssd?

Agreed. This thing has 10% better write and 78% better read than my 2012 rMBP 13. I never found that computer slow so it's a delight I got something better, albeit something I'll probably never feel.

Not my 2015 though, I get 1200 read :p. Just messing, those write speeds are fine. Sure not as fast as the 2015 MBPR & MBA, but no slouch. May never notice in real world use.

Can't believe I'm quoting C2R here and agreeing ;), but this is right. FV2 is not a zero-impact situation but once the disk is encrypted you'd be very unlikely to see the difference without doing a careful side-by-side test.

Yes. And this is a remarkable technical accomplishment. Really, it deserves a spotlight. FV2 is immensely impressive.

Anyone know why my write speeds are so poor? This is a 512GB model and I've tried restarting a few times and made sure nothing else was running in the background. It took so long to transfer my time machine backup because of this.

I am not an expert in SSD, but what write speed should it be?

I have an external SSD drive with USB 3.0 and I got the same speed and I thought it's pretty fast. So much so that I can do a clone (Carbon Copy Cloner) and boot my entire machine from it.

my write speeds seem to be very erratic and jump up an down every speed test??

Is there something wrong with the SSD?

Like I presumed from the very beginning, the 256 GB SSD is very likely faster.

These were the results from my 512:
