There is a heat dissipation area at the bottom of the case. I've ben using this type of cases for ages so I think it'll be fine. If it creates a giant heat sink, then I'll simply get a pouch like ones and carry it naked :)

I'm not getting the hardshell cases to protect my magsafe port, but rather the aluminum casing. I've had the hardshell cases on for years and never had a problem such as sandpaper issues. I'll gladly give this macbook a try.

You may be looking at cases that are different from the ones I've looked at, which covered top and bottom. Covering only the lid should not be an issue from the point of view of cooling, although the grit/scratch issue is real.

Covering the bottom really could affect cooling. Based on my measurements, the bottom cover is an important cooling surface.

pretty sure people are talking about the area around the port, not just inside the port. Anodizing in general and how well it will hold up on the SG.

It may or may not be unrealistic to expect people to insert connectors by some method other drag-and-push?

Well the first post say this
" I just noticed that there is considerable wear (i.e. scratches, paint coming off) inside the power port already."
So what did you read???
If scratching outside the port is a problem then that is a result of bad aim. The Surface Pro's had that problem also.

That is what the OP said, but I also think the SG is susceptible to scratches showing.

I always make sure to carefully put my magsafe in. I know some people just fumble around scratching it against the port until it goes in but that's how you get scratches.

I started to look for scratches on mine, but then I decided that I really shouldn't spend my time looking for something to be irritated by.
