Would like to hear from 12 Pro owners. How do you like the new flat edges? Does it make picking up the iPhone from a flat surface easier? Do you like how it feels while holding in your hand(s)? I’m more interested hearing how you like it regarding ergonomics vs aesthetics. Thanks.

I’m a woman with smallish hands.

The flat edges definitely provide a better grip than the recent generations of iPhones. I don’t feel like I need a case. However, the problem for me is the thickness of the phone. It feels like I’m holding a brick.

When you first pick it up and use it, the phone feels manageable but then you start to notice the weight and thickness as you shift it around in your hands while doing tasks. This is more noticeable with one handed use. When using it with two hands the edges and the thickness are a non issue.

I’m coming from an iPhone 11 Pro. I couldn’t stand the weight of the 11 Max even though I had an iPhone XS Max prior to that. But the squared off thickness here is another monster than I need to learn to tackle if I’m going to keep this phone.

Maybe I’ll get used to it. Or maybe I’ll go back to my 11 or try the mini which is frustrating because of the missing telephoto lens.

It feels better than the 11pro in my opinion, but I’ve always liked the flat edges better. Chances are you’ll be putting in an otter box anyway right ? 😂

Apple has flip flopped between flat and rounded edges over the years. They’re going flat again now but I’m sure they’ll go round again at some point. IMO, you get a better grip with the flat edges.

Much prefer the flat sides. I did buy a plum silicone case (I normally get leather but they’re not out until Nov 6th) but I’m not a fan of all the lint they pick up.

This is the first iPhone since the SE and 5 that I’m happy to use without a case and it’s not uncomfortable or slippery.
I am however still interested in the 12 Mini but need to wait for some hands on videos and pictures before even considering returning the Pro.

Felt a bit uncomfortable at first, but then you realize that you don‘t have to grip it as hard to get a good hold on it, since it is less slippery.

If I get the 12 Pro Max I'd really like to use it case-less if possible. I'm so tired of adding weight to already heavy phones. I'd like to think the flat edges would make the device easier to handle.

I have the 12, not the pro, so mine’s a bit lighter overall, but I will say the flat edges aren’t my preference. I like the look of the tapered edges better. That said, I chose the 12 over getting the 11 pro due to the 12 being lighter weight, and I do like it, but it’s not my favorite design.

Are you considering possibly switching to the mini, or is the weight reduction vs the 11 pro sufficient?

Not considering the mini. I left an 11 for the SE2 to try something smaller (was just missing smaller, lighter phones) with the plan to use it til the 12s came out. I loved it - still do love a LOT of things about it - but typing on it, even in zoom mode, was just not cutting it. That eliminated the 12 mini from consideration.

Honestly, the weight of the 12 is much closer to the weight of the SE than it is to the 11 pro (which I also considered), so I’m pretty happy with that. Holding them both, I really can’t tell any difference, and I could definitely feel a difference with the SE2 and 11 pro.

Ah, ok. I actually have the 11 now and I’m still deciding between all 4 12 models lol. I was leaning mini but I’m concerned the reduction in display content might be frustrating. Also I hadn’t considered your point about the keyboard size. Otoh, I’m reluctant to go heavier since I try to one-hand and even the 11 gives me wrist/finger discomfort w extended usage. Glad you like the 12. As far as not having tapered edges, maybe a nice case will offset that... Enjoy it!

Yeah the 11 just got to be too much. I had the XR before it, and all the pluses before that, and I was just tired of big, heavy phones, hence the desire to try the SE, which I really do love.

This is definitely, weight-wise, my best option, but if talk to text wasn’t a joke, I’d probably keep the SE.

One thing I will say though, the camera on the 12 seems better than the 11 and SE, based on the few pics I’ve taken so far. That will be a big plus.

Personally, I find them incredibly uncomfortable. I find the 11 Pro far more comfortable to use with one-hand.

Same here. Gutted as love the look of the new iPhone 12 pro but not sure to keep my iPhone 11 Pro now

Problem is were going to see the square edge for the next few years I'm sure and will need to upgrade at some point

Exactly the decision I'm trying to make ha, only reason I upgraded this year was due to running out of storage on my 64gb 11 Pro (and Amazon in the UK accidentally sold some 12 Pros at a discount which I have benefited from) so I might just try using it for a day and then see how I feel! I would strongly consider the Mini if the cameras weren't important to me.

I heard about the Amazon issue...what was the deal or discount ?

Apple didn’t do the best job of setting my screen into the case. They nicked it in a couple spots. One front, one back and there’s a scratch.

Liking the flat sides... better grip and with the flats sides you get a flat screen. This means you can get screen protectors that go right to the edge and are more or less invisible... especially if you do pop a case on.

i upgrade every year since the 3G. the 12 Pro is the largest iPhone i've ever had but it is the easiest to pickup and hold securely since the 5S. no longer do i feel its a bar of soap and either naked or in the apple silicone case i find it easy to hold, very secure, and it makes it feel smaller than the 11 Pro despite in reality being larger. i love the change.

All their 12 Pros were listed for £849 (should have been £999/£1099/£1299) - so I got a 256gb at a £250 discount (512gbs had sold out already!)

Trying to use the phone for a day and see if I get used to it - in contrast to above, I am personally finding it easier to pick-up/take the 11 Pro out of my pocket vs the 12 Pro.

I guess this just proves that everything is ultimately subjective! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the new design - hoping I get used to it too
