Nostalgia doesnt hide how uncomfortable those edges are.

I love using my kids SE because its so small and comfy. So I assumed a larger, modern update would be fine, but it isnt. The problem is that the boxy shape are fine on a tiny iPhone5 but on a large Pro then you really feel those edges. Maybe it may feel better on a Mini but I can’t imagine how it will feel on a Max.

apple will give you a new one, report it immediately.

Yup I’m sure they would. It just they’re so small and I’m not sure it’s worth going down the iPhone lottery path over it. Zoom in to see it. Light has to hit just right to see em.

All their 12 Pros were listed for £849 (should have been £999/£1099/£1299) - so I got a 256gb at a £250 discount (512gbs had sold out already!)

Trying to use the phone for a day and see if I get used to it - in contrast to above, I am personally finding it easier to pick-up/take the 11 Pro out of my pocket vs the 12 Pro.

I guess this just proves that everything is ultimately subjective! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the new design - hoping I get used to it too

Dam I missed that deal. Was that on hotukdeals ?

I'm fine with the square edges, I always found that the rounded edges made the X harder to hold onto. What I don't like is that they're so glossy that they're an absolute fingerprint magnet. I wish they were frosted like the back of the phone. That, or left natural like the iP4 was.

Feels better in the hand to me, but feels worse when doing screen edge gestures. Like you scrape your finger against the sharp edge sometimes.

The edges makes the 12 much easier than the X for me to hold caseless. Agree with the above comment about being a fingerprint magnet, though.

I’ll be honest I think they are uncomfortable

it just doesn’t fit the hand as nicely/comfortably as the rounded edges. Same issue that the iPhone 5 had although that had a smaller size and therefore was better to grip, but the edges definitely dig into the hand and fingers more

However that said, I do prefer the cleaner and simpler squared design much more

visually superior, ergonomically for me it’s inferior

So I used my iPhone X and iPhone 11 Pro without a case and used a wrap skin like this

If you get the matt finish its like the back of the iPhone 11 Pro, a frosted finish. This made the iPhone grip 500% better and never ever felt slippy

I've pulled it off after 12 months to sell and looks brand new. I've been using these wraps pretty much since the iPhone 6 because I don't like cases on the large phones since the days of iPhone 6

So honestly you can fix the slippy rounded problem with a simple skin/wrap. But now we have a large brick which feels like my holding a deck of playing cards to my ear

I've getting used to it today, but every time I pickup my old iPhone 11 Pro it feels way better. I cant see the extra screen size but can feel the extra size and awkward size of the iPhone 12 Pro

If I could see the extra screen size and benefit I might be sold on the new shape....but cant see it

I'm still 50/50 on returning it....first time I've ever returned a new iPhone in 12 years

yeah agreed about that nostalgia part haha. I must admit I’m more used to it now after a few days but it’s still a tad uncomfortable overall. Nothing significant for me nor anything that prevents use, but it’s certainly noticeable

I’m debating returning this and getting a Max model, and I do have concern for how that will feel

Well Jony Ive changed the design to rounded edges as it was more ergonomical for bigger phones. Now he’s left ergonomics clearly don’t matter anymore.

I feel the sharp edges more on the 12 Pro, but it is a lot more comfortable to hold for long periods. It requires less of a ‘squeeze’ to stay in place in your hand as you’re using it. It’s also much, much easier to pick up off a flat surface.

I also think the flat edges look a lot better and more modern, Apple made a very good choice switching back to flat sides. I reckon there’ll be a whole load of Android smartphones following suit next year too.

Liking the flat sides... better grip and with the flats sides you get a flat screen. This means you can get screen protectors that go right to the edge and are more or less invisible... especially if you do pop a case on.
I agree. Never really cared for the curved screens or curved edges. Plus, you don’t need the extra room for the curved edges to, well, curve (outward). I like the smaller physical phone without sacrificing screen size. It’s literally smaller than the 11 in every dimension. At first I was sure the 12 had to have a smaller screen when comparing to 11 side-by-side. But, nope, same size.
