It makes absolutely no sense. I'm thinking it may be app related or maybe homescreen layout related.
Could be, noticed the same thing on my iPad Pro 3rd gen, never seen it stutter before, was scrolling through the side menu in settings, out of nowhere it started stuttering, doesn't happen often, since it's also happening on my iPad Pro we can rule out it's a hardware issue.

This is on 14.4 by the way.

Update ladies and gents, is iOS 14.5 still stutter free after a few days? 🧐📱

Great to hear that it might be fixed in 14.5 but there have been false hopes with each iOS updates for a while.

That said, in case this might help diagnose the issue, here's another very specific but potentially related bug. In the App Store app, after clicking on the profile icon in the upper right corner, and swiping down to refresh apps to be updated, when you press 'more' for an app's update description, it has its own 'stutter' (the remaining text takes a while to display while the area that the new text is about to appear in turns/flashes white). This is just as sporadic as the swipe up stutter and I can't identify a pattern for this one either. Anyone else see this?

Also, in the new MKBHD video straight up stutter (since 14.4 has it) :D
Hah. Nice catch.

This exact stutter by the way was resolved in beta 2 (and remains resolved in beta 3). This is the stutter that this thread is about. I know a lot of people are mixing it up with some kind of scrolling lag or something but surely the nasty animation stutter is gone.

No false hopes here. This thing is finally squashed. With confirmed specific feedback from Apple regarding this exact bug in beta 2.

I hope you're right. This straight-up drives me mental on a daily basis. It's funny how something so comparatively tiny can drive me so bonkers.

It's fixed in the 14.5 beta. You could sign up for the public beta. I've had no problems with the beta and the stuttering problem is fixed. The unlock using your Apple Watch when wearing a mask is great too.

Is the occasional scrolling lag fixed on the iPad also?

I don't usually install betas on my phone. I usually reserve them for my secondary devices. But this is annoying me so much I decided to go for it rather than wait for its public release. I've heard as far as betas go it's stable, so keeping fingers crossed this doesn't bite me.

I’ll probably jinx myself but so far so good with the 14.5 beta. I’m almost 24 hours in and it’s looking good. The only stutter i’ve seen so far is when i unlock the phone and swipe up the lock screen. But nothing else. I typically see the problem come back a few hours after a reboot or upgrade.

You'd think that the title of this thread having the phrase "when closing apps" would be a clue that we're not talking about scrolling, or zooming, or YouTube, or Fortnite, but alas...

14.4.1 is out. Hopefully this fixes the stutter as well as 14.5.
It’s just a security update to fix a WebKit vulnerability, so unlikely. Doubt they would merge non-security fixes from 14.5 into a 14.4 patch.

exactly just putting it out there before anyone ask if it's been fixed.🧐📱

You don’t no for certain though so it’s a possibility. Doubtful but still possible.
