This is already almost commodity on inexpensive phones on the other side, but Apple does like to keep the pull to the high end, even if everyone else has it in 400 dollar phones. By then there will be something else to draw you to Pro/Ultra I'm sure (microLED?)

Now bring ProMotion to the Studio Display! For under $1500…
5K at 120 Hz is much more difficult to pull off than 4k at that refresh rate. It can be done, but it requires the latest ports (TB4, DisplayPort 2.0, or HDMI 2.1). That would limit the market that these displays could be used for and is part of the reason why none of the OEM parts manufacturers are shipping 5K 120 Hz panels.

Exactly, this should not be a premium in 2023 or 2025, this is a standard technology that budget Androids have had for years now. Apple is just sheeping out the user base.
When you can't innovate enough to drive sales, just slowly let the features trickle through the ever growing lineup. Tim is just a bean counter. It's time for someone new to take the helm.

Apple just chooses different priorities. The ProMotion displays are more expensive and have distinct features that go beyond just 120Hz that budget Android phones have. If Apple were to put ProMotion in standard iPhones, they would have to make cuts elsewhere to maintain their margin. Apple thinks customers value other things such as the camera system more.

I got the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro with ProMotion, and I didn't think 120Hz was that mindblowing or revolutionary as many people here says.

It's not so much that it's "mindblowing", but once you've used it for a while, going back to a device that has 60 Hz does look "choppy" by comparison. I would imagine that after a while of not using 120 Hz and using only 60 Hz, it would probably look fine again.

Nice to see Apple throw the poor people some scraps, the price will have to go up of course. 1$ per extra hz

I daily both 60Hz and 120Hz devices and I don't notice any differences between the two unless I put them side by side and purposely look for differences.

yeah same here. I think the darker blacks stand out more for me on the iPad Pro versus my iPhone or 2015 MacBook Pro. to be me its a bit like the lossless music debate or CD Vs digital etc. you have to really think and study it and even then you can guess it wrong.

Yeah, I guess some people are just more sensitive to it. It's not that when I use my 60Hz monitor I'm thinking "this sucks". It looks fine. But I can notice the difference in refresh rate. It's part of why I can't get the 14 Plus as much as I think it would be a good option otherwise.

Seeing as budget android have 90/120hz displays, it is laughable that apple is holding it hostage behind a "pro" moniker.
