128GB should be the minimum top end.

1. With a higher resolution display, the videos files are going to be bigger.
2. Not all of us, like myself, want iCloud.
3. And even with iCloud, many will get just a Wifi version, making iCloud not always available, or at least limited to the available bandwidth.

Agreed.

Cloud/low local storage is the enemy of quality and convenience if you regularly use your iPad outside the house or away from fast, solid wifi.

I hear talk of free wifi all the time, but ime it's either unavailable, flakey or throttled to the point of uselessness for anything beyond email or basic browsing.

I'm pretty sure they will up to 128GB, but at quite a price. It'd be worth it, though, since a high-res screen will need it, if you watch high-res video. The next iPad I purchase will be a minimum of 128gb.

There is a blossoming hope within me that in 4 or 5 years we will see 512GB iPads and upwards further into the future. We'll hopefully have memory being engineered even finer and made cheaper so we soon have TBs by the dozens within an iPad and external storage is only needed for people with giant libraries of video. And the true hope is that the "cloud" blows away, because it's blocking the light.

I find there is liitle need for over my 64gb unless Apple let me set up folders and store Office files.

With Retina display and 1080 movies, those 64GB will look like a thimble to contain a gallon of info.

I won't buy one without 128gb. Mine is 64gb and already full. It is a media device which includes movies, IBook media and etc after all. Not everyone has unlimited or perpetual bandwith for iCloud on the go.

Prettier screen and faster graphics won't sell be. Screens looks great and so do the graphics already.

AT&T is getting very stingy with bandwith too. Go over 2gb and they're throttling people including myself.

A 16GB iPad with the coming of the Retina Display is almost comical.

Art and UI assets will increase in size significantly for each app you download. No doubt that Apple will begin pushing 1080p+ video on iTunes to support the Retina Display. After OS and formatting isn't the 16GB something like 12 or 13 usable GBs?

It's like making a Ferrari but putting wooden wheels on it...

Anyone think the new lineup will be 16GB, 32GB, and 128GB?

16GB could accommodate the ones who just want an iPad, 32GB for moderate users, and 128GB for power users?

13.8gb after formatting and OS. We don't all watch 1080p movies, so I'll be getting another 16gb.

No, I think it will either be the same as now, or they'll scrap the 16GB and start with 32GB.

It all comes down to how much the flash modules are for Apple to buy them in massive amounts. If it's still too expensive for Apple to do 2x64GB to make 128GB, then Apple won't do it.

128 GB for sure announce on March 7th.

Given that Apple is currently shipping 64 Gb chips in the 64 GB phones, we will see 128 GB Ipads (with two such chips) in the new Ipads. My 64 GB Ipad is always full so I will get the 128 GB one for sure. My guess is we will see a 16 GB Ipad 2 at a reduced price and then Ipad 3 at 32 GB, 64 Gb and 128 Gb at the current (or near current) pricing.

I'm really skeptical about seeing a 128GB iPad.....

I wouldn't be shocked, but 128GB still seems pretty expensive

For the iPad 1, 64 GB of memory cost $118 two years ago, 128 GB currently will cost about $135. Given Apples huge quantities that may be even less for them. I'm really wondering given the small delta between 3G and non-3G in part cost on an iPad whether the Wifi only units go away this year or at least next year. I really think Apple has to be trying to cut the number of SKU's down, 18 for the iPad 2, is probably more of a headache then they want going forward. I guess actually if they only need 1 model for 3G (ala the 4S phone) they would reduce the SKU's to 12 from 18 which would be a great start.

Thanks for the info on the prices, where do you find that stuff? :)
Really encouraging news if they are the correct prices.
It might be feasible for the base to go up to 32GB, and the $699 model to be 128GB! Wouldn't surprise me if they charge a bit extra though... Something like this?

32GB-$499
64GB-$599
128GB-$749

We'll have to wait and see I guess :)

That pricing scale seems the most likely

anyone think we will see a 128 gig ipad3? my 64 is starting to get cramped what with all the apps/magazines/books...and a retina display will only exacerbate the problem with larger graphics files.

I am seriously hoping so!

I think apple will leave the iPad 2 at 16GB and upgrade the iPad 3 lineup to 32, 64 and 128GB. Thats what they did with the iPhone when they launched the 4S. Even though they sold earlier revisions of the iPhone, the highest capacity iPhone (64GB) was the bulk of their profits. It wouldn't surprise me if they did that with the iPads but at this point, all we can do is speculate.

I have a feeling they'll hold off on 128 gig for the iPad 4. If the rest of the industry is not pushing for 128gig capacities, why would Apple? Alright, they want to sell themselves as the best product out there, but the retina display (and processor bump) will easily be enough to keep the momentum going, and they want to keep some easy upgrades in their product pipeline. That said, the iPad certainly should be the first iOS Device to hit 128 gig since it's a more general use device than an iPhone or iPod.

how would they structure it though? 16gb iPad, 32gb, 64gb,128gb? Seems like a tiny be "fragmented", Unless they can drop the 16gb and make the 32gb the same price?

Is the memory becoming cheaper these days?

Memory is continuing its spiral down in cost. Thats why we got a 64 GB phone and why we'll see a 128 GB Ipad. At CES they were showing 512 GB SDXC cards, its great to say that the others arent keeping up, but many of the others have card slots, since the Ipad 3 wont have one, they need to have available a bigger model.

We don't all watch 1080p movies, so I'll be getting another 16gb.
Same here. If I want to watch an HD movie i'll do it in front of my 50" screen. If i'm traveling or somewhere other than my place... I can deal with a short, lower-res TV show or quick game or minor internet browsing... but who the hell actually plops down someplace and sits through a 90min HD film? I can see it's nice while traveling on a flight or something... but do you go places just to watch movies? I'm all for 128GB or less on board memory for any upcoming iPads... and leaving the rest in the cloud.

What about the RAM?

The iPad 1 has only 256 mb, the 2, has 512 mb, so hopefully the 3 has at least 1024 mb, or 1 gb. More would be better of course, especially considering the retina display, which I would think, needs more memory.

Of course a Micro-SD memory card socket would also be nice to have as well. ;)

1GB of RAM is about 99.9% certain to be included.

128GB of storage makes a lot of sense on a media device.

Could they not put 1 32gb and 1 64gb flash card (or whatever it uses) in it so it would have 96gbs. That'd be a lot cheaper than 2 64gb chips probably?

I'd be happy with that.. Would love 128 though!

Considering there is a 64GB iPhone 4S, we know it can be done. But unfortunately Apple put that one out at $100 more than the previous top storage capacity.

One reason I really hope for a 128GB iPad 3 is I'm hoping it will be the one at $699, meaning a 64GB iPad 3 for $599. I can easily make do with a 64GB iPad because I have for a year. I still have to work out selling this thing, but I'm all keen on saving $100.

If they kept in iPad 2 in production with 16 GB only as a super low end alternative to compete with the Kindle Fire, then it might make sense for Apple to go to 32/64/128 GB on the iPad 3, though I still think 128GB is highly doubtful.

128 might be too costly to keep their current pricing, but at the same time I don't see three refreshes without a change in storage.
