I know mine could just be a fluke battery issue as others are reporting great battery life. The apple chat rep had me wipe the watch and start again. No loss really since I've only had the thing a day, so we'll see. I fully charged my watch yesterday and started using it around 2:00pm. It was completely dead by 9pm and took over 3 hours to charge back up. Really hoping I don't need a replacement!

I felt like I was playing around with my watch constantly yesterday and it used 65% over 10 hours. I charged it to 100% before bed and sitting on my nightstand for 8 hours it dropped to 85%. After being up for 4 hours it's at 68%. My days are usually about 16-18 hours so I think the battery life is about what was advertised with real life use, 5-8% per hour depending on use.

Are you guys noticing the screen turn on while doing everyday things? Like driving for example... My screen constantly flashes on and off like it thinks I'm raising it to check the time

Why wouldn't you just leave it charging instead of sitting on your nightstand for 8 hours? That's a few hours of extra use during the day from your calculation.

Very preliminary of course, since I've had it barely over 24 hrs, but...

Put it on fully charged at 6:15am this morning. Using it for various notifications and to respond to a couple of iMessages. It's now 1:22pm, some 7 hrs later, and it's at 84%.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't make it 36 hrs for me with (my) typical usage. It'll have zero trouble getting through even a heavy-use wake to bed day/night cycle.

42mm size, fyi.

I noticed that making a call on it for 5 minutes was a huge hit on battery life. Been using it heavily for 5 hours and I'm at 63%. BUT the brightness has been at 100%. Kind of a maximum performance test today! SS42

According to your math, the battery will last eternally. Thanks for that helpful test case.

OK here you go:
Update: 5 hours wearing the watch. Did a driving navigation test for about 15mins, sent a few text messages, checked the time here and there and I'm now at 88%

:p

I put mine on yesterday at 85% out of the box at 9:00 AM, played with it all day, showed it to family, and still had 20% at 10:00 PM.

I did a workout this morning, which did take it from 100% to 85%. The heart rate monitor is definitely the most intensive piece aside from the screen.

Overall, very pleased.

I have been using the workout feature which definitely drains it faster, but not too bad. I received the watch at around 4pm with 82%. I set it up, and then I did a 40 minute walk, and by the time I went to bed at 9pm, it was at 21%. I was laying around with it a lot though.

This morning, I put it on at around 7am. I ran for 50 minutes and it was down to 62% at 1pm. I put it on the charger while I showered and It was back up to 90%. Even for a fairly active lifestyle, I think it will do fine.

As of right now, been awake and using since 7:30AM, it is now 2:20PM, I am at 78%. Have taken messages, phone calls, alerts, emails, shown it to several people and let people mess with it.

Battery, at least on the 42MM is great. (i say this because I know that apple did differentiate in its testing by stating that all tests were done with a 38MM model. The 42MM has slightly better battery)

... so I think the battery life is about what was advertised with real life use, 5-8% per hour depending on use.

I had figured the same thing, about 4-10% per hour.

Someone should do a chart of results. Especially by watch size:

My 38mm is at 48% after 7hrs 42mins standby and 2hrs 38mins usage.... Hmmm

I did some rough dimension calculations using teardown photos, and unless I'm totally crazy, it looks like the 42mm watch should have enough extra space to get a 30% larger battery.

I.e. the larger watch could have about 266 mAh versus 205 mAh.

That would mean that a 42mm user could go 23 hours (*) doing the same things for which a 38mm user only gets 18 hours. (*) Of course, we'd have to factor in the bigger screen as well.

If I'm right, this could also explain why Apple only gives figures for the 38mm, and then simply adds, "A 42mm Apple Watch typically experiences longer battery life."

Anyway, I could be way off. We must wait on a teardown of a 42mm to see.

About 10.5 hours and down to 36%. I did do a 12 mile, 1:45 run today. I started my run at 84% and was at 56% when I finished. Was also constantly comparing the HR reading with my Garmin 620 (so screen on a lot) too. Not sure if I'll make it through the rest of the day but will see.

After 11.5 hours of use, I'm still at 65% - 42mm connected to 5S.

Very impressed as I've been using it quite a lot today to get alerts to football scores as well as reminders and checking messages.

Both devices were fully charged this morning and phone now at 20% which is not noticeably different.

Might be taking mine in. Seems about the opposite of most others here. I know I am fiddling with it a lot and I was doing a lot of texting via dictation this morning. According to usage I have 8:47 standby, 3 hours use. I got up at 6am and it's 3pm now and I'm at 35%. Not horrible but people are seeing 50% after more time? I'll give it a week and see how it is doing. I have a 42 SS Mil.

I have to say ... I'm quite pleased. So far usage is at 2 hrs 43 min, standby at 12 hrs 14 min and the battery is at 55% ... all with a steady stream of notifications, emails and text message (most of which were replied to via the watch). Also had many time checks and co-workers wanting to see it. Probably won't get a workout in today but even if I did I don't think I'd worry about the battery at all.

So far so good!

42 or 38mm?
