OLED is not superior in every way tho. You have minimal blooming with OLED, but I have yet to see an OLED panel that can achieve similar brightness levels than the MBP screen (1000 nits sustained, 1600 nits peak). This extra brightness is useful for anyone working with HDR content. This is not factoring the burn-in issues that we see a lot with OLED.

I could see Apple pushing OLED for the general consumer market, and mini-LED (micro-LED in a few years) for professionals and creatives
Well If you’re talking about HDR specifically, then OLED demolishes LCD in that department.
Pure blacks and HDR is the biggest advantage of OLED over LCD.

HDR also needs high brightness, not solely pure blacks. As I said, mini-LED wins for the brightness levels, and on paper, they can also achieve true blacks because of the local dimming zones. In practice, I agree that OLED is superior with true blacks because it can control each pixel individually. Both technologies have their pros and cons, but for HDR, OLED is not destroying mini-LED, it's quite more nuanced.

just focus on a 15 or 16 incher that isn't heavy or costs 3000 up for a decent memory config, Apple. If you need to call it macbook pro lite, go for it.

As an owner of M2 MBA and M1 iPad Pro 11” the addition of OLED to both devices would be an instant upgrade for me.

I have the 2017", i7 with 16gb of ram, and I love it. What I would love in it is an M1 just to get that processing power, Touch ID and better battery life. But what a machine, perfect size and weight.
Yeah, it's a long-neglected niche in the MacBook line, IMO.

I guess when I upgrade my M2 MacBook Air in 2025 through the Best Buy Upgrade+ program, my new laptop will have an OLED screen. I wonder what else it will have.

If this comes true, Apple may be moving the MBA to OLED for a thinner display enclosure and better battery life. There remain good reasons why Apple might stick with mini-LED for their higher-end laptops: longer display life thanks to no burn-in, a brighter display, HDR, and a commitment to mini-LED until an increase in dimming zones approaches OLED's ability to display true blacks and no bloom.

I have never been able to get why OLED is such a big deal. I value viewing comfort much more than popping colors. The matte LCD display on my work laptop running Windows is so much more comfortable than anything that Apple makes.

Well this solves my contrast level annoyance, tho it'd be nice to get it in a 15" for sure...or an extra port on the right side so I don't have to cut my desk position options in half.

Why? Mini led is perfect for a computer until microled arrives.
MacBook mini led are almost flawless and with no risk of burn in.

OLED isn't superior than LCD displays in terms of price either right? I don't understand why Apple would push pricier OLED for the general consumer, especially when OLED comes with burn-in issues and risk of law-suits.

For professionals, I could see Apple pushing OLED for the better color representation (please correct me here, my superficial understanding is that OLEDs have better color representation than LCDs, but do lack in the brightness), but I'm skeptical about general consumers.
Brightness is not an issue as long as latest iPhones reach those ultra night peak brightness.
Would be less bright in bigger displays, but the risk of burn in is there for a computer with all those static elements.
I would stay with mini led that works superbly, until micro led arrives.

2024!? Long way off. What's the story here. Apple slowly improves it's products. I'm also confused why a company with so much money and so many resources takes so long to bring make it's products as good as they can be.

Hello Tim Apple, I want a 32" OLED iMac with 0,5nm M4 UltraMaxIncredible processor. But I will settle for a 32" OLED iMac with the M2 Ultra.
The fact that you can't buy an AS iMac that's larger than 24" is a head-scratching, puzzling travesty.

I'm not a potential iMac buyer but if I were, I'd be holding out waiting for something better. 24" is SMALL these days.

MBPro mini led is the best on the market and can compete with oled perfectly with the benefits of high sustained brightness, color accuracy and no risk of burn in.
A move to oled in MacBooks is an error IMO.

Seems overkill for the entry level. I'd rather them keep the current screen and cut the price back to $999.
Presumably when this model launches the current M2 will stay in the lineup and drop to $999 to replace the M1, the OLED M3 may come in at the same $1,199 or go up a bit to $1,299.
