Yeah I am unimpressed with the 1080 cameras on the redesigned MBP and Studio displays. In some cases, the camera on my Thunderbolt display produces better picture. I'm very hopeful that the imagery coming from my phone's camera will better than what's getting included in any of these machines that have 1080 hw on them.
That's Apple's aim.

Twp pages of comments and so fr none that talsk abt what people do with the computer. What do you all do, just set it on your desk and look at it.

In my case, I attach a 30 inch 4K monitor and run 3D CAD or media editing software or have a half dozen text screens up while using a Chrome in the backgroud to look stuff up.

So given that workload the 13" MPB with the fan and 16GB RAM is the best option.

My point here is that you can not say what is "best" until you look at how the computer is used.

The 13" M1 MacBook Pro replaced me a desktop PC. I could do all sorts of things on it without bothering about SoC temperatures. Normally, it doesn't get hot, but once you do some gaming on it, like Minecraft with some heavy shaders or even live stream all of that with OBS, things are going to change fast. I know this is not a gaming PC, but it's my only PC now and I'm more that happy with it, so I couldn't imagine it without a fan. The M2 Air is a great typewriter with more than enough horsepower for editing videos, but a 13-inch MacBook Pro is a full-fledged desktop replacement.

Also, IMO the 14” & 16” Pro’s are kinda ugly. I understand they’re better, but I really don’t think this is a good design, so I’d rather get the 13-inch Pro.

The touchbar is an advantage for the MBP? Really? That's a first.
I won't argue that it's mostly useless (because you can't use without looking at it), but here's quite a few usecases:
Quckly adjust brush size and a ton of other things in Affinity Photo, Publisher and Designer (I use it all of the time, way better than looking for small UI menus), text suggestions for people who can't type quickly, bold/italic/underlined/etc. text in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Apple apps without learning the shortcuts, shortcuts replacement in Final Cut and other Apple apps, skipping ads on YouTube and controlling media playback. Maybe there's way more things that I can't remember. Also it is way more interactive than a row of Fn keys that could... Change the level of brightness?

This model is basically like a MBP 13 SE, by using the most refined iteration of the previous MBP chassis, but updating the internals with the M2 chip and the headphone jack to support high impedance cans. Absolutely nothing wrong with this in my eyes, and provides a very powerful, actively cooled Macbook for a reasonable price.

Honestly it further proves why I want a Macbook SE so bad, a Macbook using an older design cheaper than the Airs that use the latest chips.

No. Same number of pixels in width. Only very few 64 pixels more at MB Air in height. But MB Air needs the 64 pixels for the notch.
..thats why I said 900 pixels in height, which before you had to use the top 64 pixels for the menu bar, now its in addition to the 900 pixels, so you gain screen real estate, just like on the 14/16" Pro models

I cannot say what's best for someone else. I can make recommendations based on their use cases but what is best is something only they can decide.

An iterative, albeit useful, upgrade for M1 users. A massive upgrade for anyone before M1 users.

A lot of people have been hating on it, but the ANE gain is 40%, and graphics 35%. That’s not too shabby honestly.

If M3 is built in 3nm, that will even be a great upgrade for M1 users, possibly even M2.

Good to see availability in stores and not having to wait long for it!

Whoa! Having just seen MaxTech's video on this M2 and seen that the SSDs in these are HALF the speed of those in the M1, that's pretty outrageous! Especially if you go for the 8MB machine for the money! Wow!

This model feels like a money grab. Old design, huge bezels, no MagSafe, outdated camera, ... It’s a bit sad Apple has the audacity to release this model.

I am beginning to suspect it’s chiefly due to the supply chain crunch.

You may all laugh, but the 13” MBP chassis already had a thoroughly debugged and optimized supply chain and in today's world, being able to drop a new chip into an existing shell on an existing line is a powerful advantage.

Everyone clearly wants the new Air, but Apple was able to get this out the door now, while we still wait for the Air (and we have no idea how easy it will be to order even). If there are problems or shortages with the Air in the near future, Apple will still have these on the shelf to offer customers.

So it’s an option for people who want the power of the new M2 chip but also need a new laptop now and don’t want to deal with the uncertainty of the M2 MBA supply.

Better than nothing.

Sure. But you have to admit that Apple is phasing out the Touch Bar. I’m still stuck with a MBP from 2014 because I refused to upgrade to the ones with the bad keyboards. So I skipped the touchbar and now it seems like a waste of money and time to invest in it as this will probably be the very last model. And I can’t imagine devs will invest in it anymore either. Too bad.

This is why I love the touch bar if works for the people that actually find it useful. But others will continue to cry and whine about it and call it a gimmick lol... the same way people complain about the notch on the iPhone but now it's on the Mac's lol!!! It is what it is...
