$1699 is way too much if it only has a 128GB SSD.

Yeah, something doesn't add up. If that's really the price, and really the entry storage capacity, and really just 2-core processors… I don't believe it. 9to5mac has great sources, but they've either been dished disinformation or are missing some key details.

I really do hope those specs are wrong and there's a flash/SSD option for the mini, I want one but not with a conventional HDD.

I'm concerned that Apple is pricing things so high (for the poxy amount of storage they have) that they'll lose significant market share (or at least miss out on expanding it). If the rumours of a 16G iPad Mini/Air with non-retina screen for $325 are true, that's blowing it for me. Also, will retina MBP drives be replaceable? Don't think so... Time to stock up on the fat models!

I've been waiting long time for 13" rMBP, but I think I'll buy 15" rMBP from amazon. Better graphic card, 256GB ssd as standard, larger screen, quad core ! 1559£ from amazon (today) vs 1499£ihc from applestore in few weeks (13"rMBP price in UK I guess). Not excited bout that 13" model anymore :(

You do know that there are more pros in this world than graphic and video nerds right?

I am neither. I am using about 180 gigs of my 256 gig SSD. My wife is an accountant and uses more space as well. It's not just graphics and video nerds that use storage. It's professionals, people who do work, I would think people who need more computing power than an air also have higher storage demands. Do all of them? Of course not, but this a pro computer.

$500 premium and only 128GB of storage?!

You are becoming a joke Apple. This is not a "Pro" product at all. Just a gimmick.

I think you forgot the Retina Display and the bump in RAM as well. For $500 you get:

Retina Display
SSD
Twice the RAM
Dedicated VRAM (Rumor).

Not a bad deal.

Is there any chance the 13in Retina's will have discrete graphics?

Best you could hope for is a 620m, and that wont happen as leaving the dGPU active all the time with all those pixels will destroy battery life and cause unnecessary heat.

I wish Apple would just drop the 13" model for good and focus on the MBA line for portable powerhouses, leaving the 15" for the "pros".

Less really is more, I guess.

Still, Porsche, Ferrari and Lambo pull it off by selling far more expensive lightened versions of their vehicles, which lack in most instances necessities like electric windows, SAT-Nav, Air-Con and a radio etc. and people buy them :D

Personally, a retina 13'' Pro wouldn't appeal to me. I'd rather have a standard 13'' Pro and spend the extra cash on more ram and perhaps a camera lens. :p

Nah I'm more excited for the iMac, in desperate need of an upgrade my main machine a MBP is now four years old and so slow for the things I'm currently doing.

Holy crap?! That is *waaay* to expensive for a paltry 128GB SSD. I was thinking I might consider one to replace my 2007 MBP. But pay almost as much as I did back then for half the storage? The retina display is neat, but not something I'd pay a lot of money for. No thanks...

There was another article recently that said it was going to only have an integrated GPU. Maybe I'll just hold out a little longer and get a new regular 15" MBP for only a little bit more.

No. Just no.

You can get an aftermarket SSD 550MB/s read/write minimum for under $100 for a 120GB model. 16GB RAM costs something like $50 these days.

So basically, you are paying $350 for a screen that the hardware is too underpowered to produce satisfactory performance.

$1699 is steep. The 512 Retina SSD model could be then close to $2500. I don't see too much benefit in the retina screen on a notebook for me. So I hope there will be non retina versions available.

There are. They were released 4 months ago.

The rumored $1699 13" rMBP starting price doesn't really makes sense if it only comes with 128GB of storage.

That would be paying $400 more than for the equivalent 128GB/8GB RAM 13" MBA just to get a Retina display and a non-ULV processor that costs the same (both $225 OEM price).

The premium for a 13" rMBP over a 13" cMBP would also be higher ($500) than for a 15" rMBP over a 15" cMBP ($400) even though I'm pretty sure the Retina display in the 15" is more expensive/harder to make, plus it gets 256GB of storage which is considerably more expensive than 128GB.

I don't think Apple would have a significantly higher margin on the 13" rMBP than on the 15" rMBP. I have a hard time believing that. The specs may be wrong, the price might be wrong, or we may get a discrete GPU after all.

Whilst I agree to some extent, you'll also find that the retina has the following extras that the non-retina 13" doesnt:

- Two Thunderbolt ports
+ a HDMI port
= support for three external displays

I will wait for the announcement, but I think these rumors are accurate. I hate to say it, but "meh".

The 13" retina prices seem too high. If they put in a quad core and/or a matte screen I'd reconsider, but $500 retina premium is simply not worth it to me. I guess I'm waiting some more (until this '08 alumabook finally dies).

Holy cow, if they release a quad-core Mac Mini at high-end Mac Mini Price, then I think I should sell my 15" MBP for that.

However, what about the discrete GPU? Don't tell me Apple is going to use HD4000 in quad-core MM as well.
