I wish Apple would just drop the 13" model for good and focus on the MBA line for portable powerhouses, leaving the 15" for the "pros".

Why do you care, nothing is stopping you from getting the 15" model and leaving the choice to get the 13" to others.

No. Just no.

You can get an aftermarket SSD 550MB/s read/write minimum for under $100 for a 120GB model. 16GB RAM costs something like $50 these days.

So basically, you are paying $350 for a screen that the hardware is too underpowered to produce satisfactory performance.

couldn't agree more. I guess this device is appealing to those who have no knowledge of how to upgrade something as basic as ram. Although I imagine the 13'' rMBP will have soldered ram on the logic board, un-upgradible.

Indeed. Extremely expensive for 13" model with only 128GB of storage.

Agreed. Not sure how much of a market there is out there for a 128GB SSD 13" MBP (or rMBP.) There has been a current-generation one on Apple's refurbished section of their online store now for what seems like forever.

I think the 13 rMBP is gonna start at either $1599 or $1499. $1699 is pretty steep.

Which is the majority of consumers. MacRumors gives people a very skewed perception of what the overall customer base does with their computers.

I'm not saying that the 13" is a good deal...just that most people never have any desire to open up their computer, much less swap out parts.

So the 13" non-retina is $1199 for a non-retina screen, mechanical HD, and 4GB RAM.

A good 128GB SSD is worth about $100 these days. That's for a Samsung 830, which is what Apple is using in it's newer computers (just in a proprietary configuration).

Apple's own pricing puts the 8GB RAM upgrade at $100.

That takes it up to $1399.

A Macbook Air with the same RAM and SSD combo costs $1299.

Is a retina display really worth $300-$400 extra? I'm not sure how well that will work.

I only care about what the video card will be, integrate video card doesn't worth those 500 dollars.

Nobody should be upset with these specs at this price. Anybody expecting more is just fooling themselves. If anything this is actually cheaper than I was expecting it to be.

No hard drive. No thanks.

The 13" Retina MBP will be SSD. 13" regular MBP will be continue to support a HDD. No different than what they've done with the 15" Retina MBP vs. the 15 MBP.

If I had to guess, I'd say we're probably a couple of years away from retiring the spinning hard drives all together from all Macs.

Is it feasible to drive a 13" rMBP display just from the HD 4000 IGP? Not that it matters to me, I'll only *need* the retina display for a future updated to Lightroom.

Do we know that yet?

Guys. Do you really think they will sell the entry 128gb/i5/8GB rMBP for $1699 where you can get a 256gb/i7/8GB MBA for the same price?

$500 premium and only 128GB of storage?!

You are becoming a joke Apple. This is not a "Pro" product at all. Just a gimmick.

Now look at how many posts there are that say Apple is becoming a joke, because they are still selling spinning hard drives instead of switching everything to SSD.

To be honest, on my home MBP with 1 TB hard drive, most of the space is used for movies, TV shows, music, audiobooks, and photos. All stuff that isn't there on the Mac I use for work. As a home user, I want 1 TB. As a professional user (that means someone who actually makes his living using a Mac, because that is what "pro" actually means), 128 GB are just fine. I'm using 61 GB right now on my "Pro" Macintosh.

Please wait two hours until you get the actual facts before you start complaining. This may very well be two rumors mixed: One for the starting price assuming 256 GB SSD, one for the actual models starting with 128 GB SSD. Or maybe there is a quad core processor. $1699 for 128GB + 8GB + quad core would be Ok.

no SSD love for the Mac mini?

No matter what Apple does, people will be complaining. Some complain about the cost of SSD on a Retina MBP, some complain that the MacMini doesn't have one.

If they throw a *decent* graphics chip in the high end mini then I'm in! I would love to use a mini for my photoshop work.

Apple can EOL the normal Pro either today or the next few months.

Apple will price it to keep demand equal to how many they can produce. Having a lower price that creates more demand than they can supply, makes little sense.

Here we go again with all the self-professed 'Pro's who need more than 128 GB internal storage. I'm willing to put my hand up as one non-video pro who gets along very nicely with a 128 GB internal SSD, and a multi-TB external drive for archives. Then again, I don't download porn torrents overnight, so perhaps I'm just missing out.
