As a proud owner of a late 2009 MacBook(6,1), I must say I got mine because of the price I was able to snag it for ($799.00 via MicroCenter), I love the white glossy look, and it had what I needed for the price. I can and at the time of purchase could've easily afforded and Apple MacBook Pro model, but I went with what pleased me. I eventually added my own extra 2GB oF RAM(now at 4gb total) it came with a 250GB HD that I upgraded to a 500GB HD. I really enjoy my Macbook 6,1 late 09, great piece of tech....and at the time when I got it, Jan '10, the specs were comparable to that of the MBP 13" out at the time(minus firewire, backlit, etc)

To each their own, but I love my uni white macbook! couldn't live without it, now to just get myself an iPad, haha.

MBP has a subwoofer. It is only like an inch but it makes a difference ;)

Yes.

I'm a high school student and my main uses are pretty much for browsing the web, playing music and doing some stuff in iWork

The Macbook has no specification difference (beside the RAM) and my needs would have been suited by the Macbook.

I decided to wait up a month or so more to get the Pro.
They both are nice laptops though.

I would have gotten the Macbook for sure if I got it for $799.

Edit***

I forgot to mention. Had I gotten the Macbook, I knew I was going to upgrade the RAM eventually so that kind of hindered my decision for the Macbook pro and I have read a lot about the bottom rubber part of the macbook warping and coming off over time. I'm not driving to my Apple store every couple of months to get that fixed...

Here is why I first considered the MacBook but went with the 13" mbp.
Ram. If you are gonna want anything more than 2gb you will have to upgrade the MacBook which puts you in range of the mbp. That and I had to have a 500gb drive so Im enjoying the aluminum unibody low end mbp with a large enough hard drive for my needs.

I did consider it but it just didn't make sense for me to buy one. Again mostly due to ram and the hdd I needed.

I wanted FW 800 so I picked the 13 MBP over the MB. I also did not like the case the MB comes in. Black should be an option...

It all comes down to personal preference. You can't go wrong with either machine.

Me, I'd go with the white MacBook because I just don't like the glass. Now, if the 13" MBP had an anti-glare model, I'd pick that. And if the MacBook came in matte black plastic, I'd pick that. If both happened, I'd need a few days to decide between them :).

really the only thing you get with a 13" pro that you don't get with a MB is a FW 800 port, SD card reader, alu design, and backlit keyboard.

not worth the extra money imo

You can say this about anything though, really. Of course, for those of us that have owned the white plastic MacBook, knew there was no way in hell, we'd ever buy that again. :D

My kid had a white Macbook and he constantly had problems with case cracking, buttons falling off, the screen peeled off from the lid. I had heard of similar problems with Macbooks but not so much with the MBP. I just like the sturdier design overall.

I dont think that is an issue with the new unibody Macbooks.

I've never heard of the screen peeling off or the keys falling off either.
