hello, I have a question
If I changed the hard drive, then my macbook pro will lost all of its memory right? so what will happened to my snow leopard software? can I install it again? from where?

Sorry for this stupid question, I'm new in mac world..

There are three possibilities here:

1. You have a Time Machine backup. Just replace the hard drive, restore from your Time Machine backup, everything is fine. Even if things went wrong, you would put your old drive back in, and everything is fine.

2. You don't have a Time Machine backup. In that case, before you do anything else, run to the nearest shop that sells external hard drives, buy a cheap 1 TB hard drive, attach it to your MacBook Pro, set up Time Machine, start it, and wait until it is finished. Then go back to step 1.

3. You don't have a Time Machine backup, and you are not going to bother with it. In that case, if you lose any data, that is just what you deserve.

to go against the grain here,

I have a 500gb WD Scorpio Blue. Used it in my macbook for couple months, but now took it out because I couldn't deal with the noise. It isn't extremely loud or anything, but the sound is like waves at a beach, it comes and goes in split second intervals. I use it externally as backup now.

but my situation may not be the same as yours. I need to study in a dead silent environment to be productive. Anywhere else, say like the library or office, you won't hear it. But at home in my quiet room, it really irritates me.

vibrations

Um... that's another example of apple employees not knowing what they're talking about. The higher speed drives do create slightly more noise, vibration, and have a higher power consumption, but I don't think any of them are going to be particularly noticeable.

I have bought and installed 7200 RPM disk (Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB 16 MB cache) into my MBP 13 (model 2010) and I have to confirm the noise and vibrations increased.

I can live without problem with the noise, which increased only slightly, but it is not very convenient when you work and your hands vibrate... I am really thinking about downgrading back to the original disk :( because SSDs are still too expensive for me.

Hello people,

Just bought the new 13" Macbook Pro, which i am loving! My first mac!

I bought the 2.26 model with the intention of upgrading the ram and hd myself and saving some money.

Anyway i was looking at putting a 320gb 7200rpm drive in, but the guy at the store said apple dont recommend putting 7200rpm drives in the 13" models because it can cause them to overheat and should stick to 5400rpm.

So should i stick to 5400 or will 7200 be fine?

Also any recommendations on a drive? I was looking at ST9320421AS

Thanks!

i have a 13" MBP, replaced my original hard drive to Seagate 500 GB Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid Drive and no problem at all. The speed is there and no problem over heating, and the drive is very quiet. I also upgrade my memory from 4G to 8G and that's probably why. LOVE MY MBP AND VERY SATISFIED. THIS IS THE MODEL OF MY DRIVE. Model: ST95005620AS 500 GB

There are other Momentus XT threads here so you didn't have to dig up a 9 month old thread.
