the thing is, the video card is actually adequate because of the low res. If it were higher res, then the integrated graphics probably wouldn't fly. But for me, I answered resolution.

Nothing broke the deal for me because I just ordered a 13" MacBook Pro. However, for me the weakest link in the chain is definitely the 5400rpm drive. Not to worry, as I put Intel 160GB G2s in my notebooks. :)

Alas! I'm glad I bought my MBP 13" on the student discount back in December... there's nothing significant about this upgrade to make it worth the time or money for me.

The biggest dealbreaker would have to be the C2D.

So does anyone think that there will be a minor refresh sometime before school starts up in the Fall? And if so, do you think they'd ditch the C2D and put in an iX chip?

I'm really disappointed they didn't throw in an i3 or i5, or at least give the option. Do you think they may bump the 13" to one of these by Fall?

You simply are another victim of Intel's marketing. An i3 cpu is not really "better" than current C2D ...
A lot of people missing the point, here: good endurance and decent integrated graphic count much more than a "marginal" (at the best) faster cpu.

seriously.. why is the lack of i3 a deal breaker?! the performance is comparable, thats all that matters. compared to last gen's base 13", the updated one has a faster processor, 4 gb of ram instead of 2, 250 gb hd instead of 160gb, and a better gfx card.

i want i3 or i5 too but im still glad i waited.

This is the power of marketing: this forum is full of people whining for the lack of an i3 ...

Hi,

I'm waiting to see a comparison of the current 13" Macbook Pro with a laptop having the i3 (2.0 Ghz?) and the Intel integrated graphics.

My guess is that the Macbook Pro in its current form would be quicker than the i3 option.

Just a guess though.

You Are probably right

Smart marketing, actually

Seeing all the disappointment with the 13 inch refresh, I see nothing but smart marketing by Apple. SO many people that were waiting for the 13 inch have now opted for the 15 inch merely because of the new i core. A nice profit boost for Apple! If I had not foolishly bought my 13 inch FIFTEEN days before the refresh and could return it (which I cannot because I used the serial number for a rebate, which required me to cut it off the box) I would have opted for the i5.

If they made the 13 as good as the 15 no one would be paying 800 dollars more for a 15.

It's smart. Prople aren't really going to switch back to PC like they did to OSX.

Don't be so sure. Windows is getting better and OSX is just spinning its wheels as Apple concentrates on their pads and pods.

CPU, Graphics, and anti-glare.

BTW, where does Apple come off charging MORE for the anti-glare option? Do you or do you not get less hardware in the form of the missing glass panel ??

Completely agreed on all points. And it would be nice if the 13" MacBook Pro got a higher resolution screen as well. 1440x900 would look pretty good on it.

The one thing that would have made me upgrade my 13 mbp from last year would have been a higher resolution screen. Performance isn't that big of a jump for me to justify a change...

The 13" is abysmal when compared to laptops like the Sony Z! Apple could've done much better with this update.

why all the people in this forum keep comparing the MBP 13" with the Vaio Z ???
The Sony Vaio is a 1900-2000 $ notebook, while MBP 13" starts at 1199 $ !

People continue to talk about the Sony Z cos it's a great example of what can be achieved in a 13" body.

What's wrong with the 13"mbp costing £400 more and having a better spec? If people don't want to pay that then they can buy a MacBook - let the 13" mbp be a pro machine and the MacBook can be the consumer option

To be fair, I think the poll should have included an option for people, who are in my position. While slightly disappointed in the processor, I have put off buying a replacement for a long time and do not find any of these traits to be an absolute deal-breaker. I need the most portable MBP available and will be buying the 13" despite it's minor flaws.

+1

because the market says that people want a MBP (with aluminum case and backlighted keyboard) in the 1100-1400 $ range.
Who cares about a Sony Vaio Z notebook here ? This is a Mac forum, the Vaio is a Windows-based notebook ....

To me this just demonstrates the narrow mindedness of some users of this forum - what's wrong with discussing the competition?

The market dictates this because the average consumer who buys a mac get caught up with how 'cool' the al unibody looks, and follows the fashion. This is the only reason why it sells more than the macbook - if this was an al unibody it would be the best seller. The spec difference between the 2 models is so small now.

What some people would appreciate, especially people who use their macs in a professional capacity (hence the PRO tag on the name) is a better spec'd portable laptop that is capable of running high-end software such as Adobe CS or Final Cut etc. This was once the market that Apple aimed their products at, who rightfully feel as though Apple is letting them down.

I didn't vote, but the resolution has me a little concerned. I already have a notebook with 1280 and it works (even though its Windows Vista :().

Why does it seem that the MBPs have better resolution than they actually do? Is it the glass coating? My 1280 (15") doesn't look nearly as good as even the basic MB. Why are Macs displays so good?

$1800 credit limit on my Apple CC with 12 months no interest begging to be used!:D

This only demonstrates the trolling of people in this forum: there is NO COMPETITION since Macs are the only computers that can run Mac OSX and OSX based application.

Of course they're narrow minded. What do you expect from a group of people who blindly agree with and follow everything that retarded CEO does.
They're so blind they refuse to discuss the competition or refuse to acknowledge Apple's flaws.

I've been waiting longer than most people to upgrade my 8 year old Powerbook. I've had my eye on the 13" ever since it was introduced. But because of the lack of matte, I refused to buy one. (I don't understand why the entire industry began going glossy). Just when I got my hopes up with this refresh, Apple decided to beat down my hopes into a pulp.

I've been so focused on getting another Mac that I've never even heard about the Vaio Z series. When this new refresh (or lack of) of the 13" disappointed so many people, I started hearing things about the Vaio Z series. I'm seriously considering that option. I would have paid a couple of hundred dollars more for a better spec 13" MBP. After years of carrying around a 15" through airports, my shoulder is tired. I want a 13", but not the current 13". It's lacking too much.

Even though I'm a fan of Macs, I understand and accept their advantages and disadvantages, and I welcome the discussion of competitive products and constructive criticism of both Macs and the competition.
