Look for the SD card slot!

I'm sure this will just go into the "bit bucket," but everyone who is claiming to have seen a NEW 13" or 15" MacBook Pro with a 3.0Gb SATA needs to be absolutely certain that they are checking one of the newly redesigned MacBook Pros. Easiest way to check is to look for the Secure Digital (SD) slot on the left side of the computer.

I suspect that some are either checking one of the previous generation MacBooks (which no doubt are still on display at some Apple Stores) or they are looking at a 17" model or a MacBook Air. I doubt very seriously that Apple would be shipping the new design with some at 1.5Gb and others at 3.0Gb (regardless of whether they have a factory-installed SSD).

I'm just saying....

I would agree. If Apple supplied SSD machine are using 3.0Gb they'll be getting a return from me.

Hdd

Why is it showing HD capacity 232.57 Available 63.3 if this is a new computer in the store?

btw, the teardown at iFixit shows that the 13.3" unibody macbook pro and the 17" unibody macbook pro have the same MCP79MXT-B3 revision chip and the 17" unibody is confirmed to have a 3.0 Gbit controller.

If both of these are true, the hardware is capable of 3.0 Gbit, but apple has crippled the 13.3" mbp somehow.

i'm 99% sure those vote for 3.0g here bought their umb or umbp before June 8th 2009

Yes,
I think the poll needs to be redone with more explicit questions/instructions like "make sure you have an SD slot before you answer this question" :D

Gravel roads..... I keep thinking... Gravel Roads.

What does that mean

From my earlier post: "[Consider this analogy, apparently it's being reported that in the great state of Michigan ~cough~ more then 20 of the states 83 counties have reverted to graveling what were once, paved roads (due to cost no doubt). In one county alone, 10 miles of primary (paved) road will revert back to gravel. When I hear, that Apple has reverted the MBP SATA buss from 3Mbit/s to 1.5Mbit/s I can't help but think of Michigan's gravel roads. And when I think about making a large purchase, upgrading to a MBP as I've been doing.... I don't want to be thinking "gravel roads" do you?]"

Good catch! This indicated the chipset is identical to the 8GB capable 17" UMBP. Apple engineers responded to a few posters here with no logical sense regarding to improve efficiency. This would also explained why the pre-SD 13"UMB and 15" UMBP (except 2.66GHz/6MB cache model) with MCP79MXT-B2 chipset was limited to 6GB memory. Since the MCP79MXT-B3 revision chipset in 13" UMBP is same as 17" UMBP, a firmware and/or OS kext would address SATA 3.0Gb issue. Already sent a bug report request to Apple, hopefully we'll see an update soon!

I hope this is true! I feel like I've been divulged into the early adopter penalty and punished for the one moment I actually don't check macrumors! Yikes

Nice, thats funny

I was at the Apple Store in Annapolis MD earlier today. I checked on the following MBP units:

8 different 13"
2 different 15"
2 different 17"

All had 1.5 except for the 2 17"ers which had 3.0; and all of these are the newest models.

:apple: had better fix this.

I cannot believe this is still not a front page article.

Maybe MR is independently confirming this somehow.

The sad tale of the tape. The performance hit is pretty severe. I went to the Apple store and checked the machines. The 17 and Air report 3.0 and the rest report 1.5. I am not sure what to do with my 3.06 now. I love the screen, battery and SD slot but I am bummed that my disk speed is cut in half.

Keep the faith. It looks like its a firmware issue. The chipset is apparently the same as the 17".

Something seems wrong with your test. Here is my disk test from xbench for a new 13" MBP with an Intel X25 Sorry for the break in the pictures

Are the 15 inches having the same problem? at least the low end or mid range ones? or is it just the 13inch that has been crippled?

can anyone post your uMBP firmware and Boot ROM version?
mine is 1.47f2 and it has the 1.5gb cap.
if this firmware version is same as the previous uMB/uMBP which means it's hardware issue.... and we might never get 3.0G back:(

Boot ROM Version: MBP55.00AC.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.47f2
