Everyone be careful with the EFI update. Make sure you back everything up before installing the update. Worked like a charm for my 13" MBP with an OCZ Summit 120GB. But my friend has a 15" MBP with the same SSD and for some reason the update completely killed his SSD. He can't even reformat it or anything. OCZ agreed to send him a replacement. So make sure you back up your stuff before you install the update.

OCZ has some impressive read/write speeds, but I stayed clear away from it because of all the issues I read on their own forums and others.

Too many incompatibility, firmware issues...and now this.

Knock on aluminum, my Intel X-25M has been solid and I am happy with the purchase. Paid a little more ($284 for 80GB) but I think it was worth it.

Bootcamp runs like a dream as well.

Good luck to your friend.

I'll second that. I almost never see issues posted about SSDs except for OCZ. Seems like every possible incompatibility seems to occur with these drives.

agreed. i've been using ocz ssds since they released the original core series, but just about given up on them after constant problems and incompatibility issues. bought an intel x25-m recently and have had no problems whatsoever.

Speed gains also with Apple BTO SSD

20% disk speed gain even with the 256 GB BTO SSD. Safari seems even more instantaneous now.

if you run the test several times you might find different result.
The update should only affect SSDs can go higher than 1.5Gb.
My disk score boost from 199->270

I gave up on OCZ. Too many issues, and I have work to do..

Funny I say that and my X25-m died yesterday. New one arrived this morning from Intel though.

I haven't noticed any difference.

So can you please tell me how long does it take??
I saw someone told me it's around 31 seconds which is slower than the MBA's 30 seconds and I am curious why??? Since most of the specs on the 13 2.53 MBP are better than MBA and the inter x25-m SSD is also away faster than the one in MBA, isnt MBP deserve shorter boot up time???

Other the this, whats are the major differences to change to SSD??

thank u

Ordering a stock MBP and putting in, e.g., an Intel X25 in oneself
seems like the received wisdom in this thread, but do people
really not worry about voiding the Apple warranty? I recall
reading that you could just swap the stock drive back in and
Apple wouldn't be the wiser -- is this really the case? Isn't
there a risk that they could tell you swapped drives?

Also, legalities aside, what are the chances that my super duper
Intel or Corsair implodes, given that the MBPs really weren't
tested with those drives in mind? No greater than that a stock
CTO SSD implodes?

Thanks to those people who posted benchmarks for the CTO
Apple SSDs. Sure, the figures might not be quite as impressive
as those for the 3rd party drives, but they seem very nice, and
given the above concerns, the CTO SSD option seems pretty
appealing to me. Comments?

I'm getting ~15 sec boot time with the 160GB SSD.

Whatever; goodbye.

* I'm of the opinion they had this fix in the works before this thread; they probably referred to the vocal minority as a goodwill gesture (good job, marketing, Apple!). Hint: check the date of the firmware package contents (It takes longer than two days from being reported to create, test and distribute a firmware update).

I had an X25M die on me.

I now have a Vertex no issues (knock on wood)

they're both pretty good.

Good thing about the Intel is that they are good about replacements. Don't know about OCZ .
