Hmm i actually think i am going to wait for the next refresh then.
If it is really true that Intel has stopped making the westmeer (core 2 duo chips) and sandy bridge is out in Q4 2010, then i might as well wait for octovber/febuary and see how it is then.

we might even get a case redesign

You are wishing for too much I think. I was in your position before. Since their 2009 refresh came out, I played the waiting game and was disappointed when the 2010 refresh came out. They kept C2D and minor updates.

You won't be seeing anything until 2011 so October, November, December are out of the question.

And a case redesign?!?! Not a chance. Apple is sticking with this unibody design for a VERY long time. They don't change body designs THAT quick. They kept the Powerbook body the same as the Macbook Pro body until 2008!!!

Maybe in 2013-2014 they will change the body but not anytime soon.

yeah you are probably right...

even though i don't understand how they can just bump the C2D since Intel has stopped producing them. However, i might just save up for a 15" instead and get it over with 😛

but i don't think i need that much power for law school, i will mostly be writing. I would just also like the bigger screen.... sigh... tough choice 😛

Its true c2d will be discontinued later this year, but apple is also using c2d in recently launched mac mini.Hence they surely might be having c2d supplies up till mid 2011 or they might just stock up before they r discontinued. If sandy bridge is launched later this year, then i think a new range of macbooks should appear sometime in march-april.If they make us wait till sept-october 2011 then surely macbook / macbook pro will have a design uplift along with a good gpu, cpu.
The current unibody design is in market since 2008 hence i feel its time they make some changes to it,atleast.May be they can have curvy edges like white macbook. But that should come out in 2011...macbook pro 13' still seems trapped to me.it offers almost same performance as macbook white still costs 20%.I think its time they distinguish between these two.
And if apple is listening, plz get a black color to ur $999 macbook...

well i don't have to upgrade yet, but! im using a netbook at the moment, and i would like a larger screen for my school since im starting in law school.

So, i guess i might buy it anyway, its not because i NEED a extremly fast computer for law school.

well thanks for taking your time to answer this thread.

You will need to install windows on it also for law school. A lot of the exam programs won't run on osx.

or if they go with i3, intel's stunning HD graphics ftw 😱

since according to the steve man, there's no space for discrete graphics
...well at least in the $1199 price range there's not

Perhaps Apple will go AMD believe it or not in the near future.

AMD new CPU is going to be a monster. The integrated GPU is a very good gaming GPU. ( comparable to the ATI HD5770 and Fermi GTX460)

And AMD really got their CPU under control in terms of power. They are able to have 6 core CPU's that require less power than Intel's Quad core.

AMD might make a very unexpected comeback once they release their 32nm CPU's with integrated GPU's next year.

Not too sure about Sandy Bridge. AMD can compete against the Core ix CPU's now with their 6-core CPU's at a lower price. And the next CPU of AMD will be a big improvement.

If Steve Jobbs insist on integrated GPU's for the 13 inch MBP, AMD and not Intel will be inside the next 13 inch MBP next year 😛

Apple with AMD? Not gonna happen.
And no, NVIDIA's 320M is the fastest IGP on the planet currently and AMD doesn't even have the equivalent IGP to match them.

Just watch next year when those new CPU's with integrated GPU's from AMD come. 😉

The current spec are those of the ATI 5770 which is far superior to the 320M 😀

If Apple insist on using integrated GPU's, don't be shocked seeing AMD's in the 13 inch.

C2D will stop being produced soon, and all the new CPU's from Intel have IGP. And so will AMD.

So Apple will have to make a choice. Sandy Bridge or AMD with a superior Graphic performance 😉

I believe Apple has enough C2D in stock for the 13 inch to keep it untill next year btw.

Hi
I am finally going to get my first macbook, and it will be a baseline macbook pro 13"

however, i am a bit weary because, the last 3 years in a row, the macbook pro have been updated in october, and i am afraid i will miss out on a Core iX processor.

Do you guys think that it will just be a clock bump or a new processor in the next upgrade?

of course you can't know for sure, but i would just like your opinion

VERY low chance of a 13" upgrade this fall. It would be foolish to wait for something that won't appear until spring of 2011.

cheers

There. You just said it yourself. 😱 "I don't need that much power for law school"
I honestly don't see an update until March 2011, nonetheless a design update.
You really want to wait 8 months for something that might not even be impressive? The difference from the i3 and Core 2 Duo is very minor in most cases, and especially for just typing papers.

Do yourself a favor and buy it now.
The Core 2 Duo still has its "umph" and hasn't lost any of it's awesome power yet 🙂
