i have done 2 80gb intel's in a raid 0 with the newmodeus adapter and it is very fast but unreliable.

one hdd and one ssd are the way to go with the combo mods.

One week in, no problems yet. I get about 5 hours of web surfing with iTunes music playing in the back. I am a happy man. :)

That's good news. I've never seen this in person and would bet I never do, but if I opt to move to the mbp then the optibay will be the way I go as well.

opti bay....tsk.

I also have an optibay in my 13".

I've been having all kinds of problems. System crashes, wake from sleep problems.

As he said, its a piece of cake to install, although at first my disc couldn't be mounted on the desktop. I switched the positions of the discs and was able to erase and format it.

Since then I never really know when things might go wrong.

Its's such a bummer, maybe I got a bad disc? Is there any diagnostic test I can do?

I'm very interested in the optibay as I only have 80gb of space from my ssd drive. I have a 500gb hitachi 7200 rpm drive I'd like to use with the optibay but my concerns are about the battery life.

In one of the reviews, I've read that by installing the optibay, the battery life is decreases by as much as 15%. Well they said 10%-15% in deceased battery life.

Also does anyone know if the optibay is a full sata-II connection?

If you put an SSD in the main HD slot and a rotating disc in the optibay does the disk still have any form of shock protection? Like if it's moved or anything will it disengage the head? Or does it need a HD with a build in g-sensor to achieve this (the sort that would supposedly normally conflict with the apple g-sensor)? Hope this makes some sort of sense!

Not recommended since you will lose sudden motion sensor support.

Thanks for the other thread! So I take it that drives with their own motion sensors will be able to utilise these and therefore leaving the SSD in the HDD slot (with the intention of preventing the hibernation issues) and the standard HD (with SMS) in the superdrive slot will be fine?

This is all getting scarier than I expected

Only if you move the machine while working. I use mine on a desk connected to an external monitor most of the time. SMS doesn't matter to me.

Cheers,
